Thank you for speaking truth into the Good and the Beautiful madness. There are so many curricula written by Christians. Why aren't we using those instead?

Completely agree. We use the handwriting from tgtb bc I purchased the PDFs so 🤷it would be a waste not to use it for my other children but I just don't really care for their curriculum. We changed our plans for this year and just focused on 2 "cores" - Slow Down A Year of Learning plus Tapestry of Grace. And Math and Latin. Done! :)

I haven't. I know lots of people enjoy them. Whenever I want a unit study I turn to Gather Round. What is your favorite from Campfire?
@MalloryLeblo
@MalloryLeblo Ай бұрын
I love Gather Round, too! I use them both. I like that Campfire Curriculums has some unique units that aren’t usually featured in other curriculums, like Titanic, beekeeping, natural medicine, etc. And I like how the information is given in story form for a portion of the time and that it’s from the perspective of those in the profession! The information is broken up with fun activities and connections, so it’s not information overload, all at once. So far, we’ve done Giving Thanks, Through the Eyes of a Meteorologist, and Through the Eyes of a Volcanologist! They’ve all been top-notch. My 8 year old son has learned so much and loves to tell others what he’s learned! You should check it out!

As far as history…. Is it possible to use the same curriculum for a 7 year old and 15 year old? From the suggestions you gave which do you recommend for this ages? Another question, for the curriculum Generations, you said they are reformed, what does that mean?
@FamilyStyleLearning
@FamilyStyleLearning 14 күн бұрын
@@kita3256 In your other post you asked about Generations history. I would start with level 2, Taking the Middle East for Jesus and yes I would have your oldest listen. Do it as a read aloud and maybe get a middle east mapping to go with it for your older child. You could also ask the older child to find out the rest of the story which would give extra research practice. Because level 2 is written to children they don't always include how the person died. You can do family style history with this age gap, just study the same topic at different depths. Check out my videos on Biblioplan or Learning US History Through Literature for more ideas. Reformed theology stems from the reformation. I probably can't get into that much here but it is protestant as opposed to Catholic.

It’s my first year homeschooling and I’ll be honest, I was gonna jump in to the good and beautiful for my kindergartner only because they offer free pdfs online & because K5 is still a young age and I truly think they generalize everything about God, which I was ok with because we’d be having actual Bible lessons with a different curriculum. I didn’t realize they have ppl of many faiths involved, and also didn’t realize there’s other free curricula out there. Thanks for sharing this, my 2nd grader is for sure doing Landmark freedom but I will have to find something more engaging for my K5 daughter.
@FamilyStyleLearning

Wow, thanks for sharing making that choice! There are other free options and I mention some in my "How much does Homeschooling Cost" video. Another option that gives kids a firm Biblical education is Generations. I have a few videos already with them and will have a kindergarten level video as soon as I get those in the mail.

Definitely not a popular opinion, and I think some people aren’t even aware! But I agree about the Good and the Beautiful. My concern is not so much of them learning LDS theology through the bit of moral/verses and such. We equip our kids through so many other avenues. But my concern more lies with where the money goes. They do a lot of philanthropic efforts (which is a great thing on face!) but it is an open door for a false gospel. I have many Mormon friends who I love dearly, but they need the true Savior, Jesus who is King of the Universe!
@FamilyStyleLearning

Agreed 💯👍🏼 My biggest issue is the confusion of saying we all fall under the same faith beliefs, but yes totally agree with your concerns.

I don't really like TGATB either, but a lot of people use it around me and I always hear the comment that although the original creator was mormon the publishers and editors are from varying belief systems, Protestants and Catholics..., so there's nothing explicitly Mormon... and don't really know enough about it to say more than I'm uncomfortable with it. What are your thoughts on the beliefs of the editors?
@FamilyStyleLearning

I think the statement that those who work in it come from different "Christian faiths" is linguist hijacking. Mormon and Jehovah Witness are not Christian and to include them in that category is really bad theology. I can't be part of something that would consider them the same because what they share is false doctrine and will lead people away from truth. I would really encourage you to watch the two videos I linked that explain Mormonism better. I know TGTB is really popular all over but that doesn't make it right. Pray and use Holy Spirit discernment. I really believe this is a battle over truth and we need to stand firm.

@ezekielfenjavandehei3189 Ай бұрын
@@FamilyStyleLearning linguist hijacking is a good way to say that. I just figure if you take out all the stuff they makes the religions different, you'll have some kind of faith that is very diluted. So although I don't use it and have no intention to, I find it hard when so many people around me love it. Thank you for responding.

I am a member of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Which you are referring to as Mormonism. I don’t need to watch a video some guy made about the church I belong to and have attended my whole life. If you want to know what I believe as a Christian and member of this church then maybe talk to an actual person like me. All I have ever been taught is to believe in is Christ, that he is my savior, that he died for all mankind, and that he is the way the truth and the life. And I strive be like him, to love and to serve. So maybe unfollowing you isn’t a Christlike move but I don’t feel like I am not Christian and I think it’s unfair to accuse the good and the beautiful of not being Christian either. I find it disheartening when Christian’s attack each other. I don’t think it’s right. I think we should all support eachother despite doctrinal differences. Also I’m pretty sure that the owner of the good and the beautiful has a committee of multiple Christian denominations that help build the curriculum so saying it’s “Mormon” isn’t true. Our church doesn’t make any official “church” homeschool curriculum. Anyway I’m not here to fight or argue but I guess I just feel disappointed that a company who is trying to provide an affordable Christian curriculum for homeschooling families is being attacked This isn’t the only video I’ve seen like this and it’s just sad to me
