In the snow clip the tyres are spinning because the hand brake only locks the rear wheels (like in most cars). He should get winter tires to avoid that situation.
@geirmyrvagnes8718
@geirmyrvagnes8718 2 жыл бұрын
Mostly true. False. There are EVs that can "lock" the gearbox when in park, and if they are front-wheel drive, that means all four wheels are more or less locked. Long-pressing park in a Tesla is NOT "super-park". There is no such thing. I am fairly sure you don't believe me, but there really isn't. :)

@@geirmyrvagnes8718but if you long press the button what does it do then? When I press it I can ear a sound in the front of the car, maybe when you press P once it locks the car with the gearbox, and long press might actually engage parking brake
@D3kKromb0x
@D3kKromb0x 2 жыл бұрын
Nah, even if you hold in the button the front wheels will still turn freely, I know because I have two sets of wheels with winter and all season tires that I swap out myself, for the front wheels either you have to loosen the nuts while the wheel is still on the ground, or have someone get into the car and hold the real brakes to keep them from spinning freely. (I usually have someone hold the brakes so I can torque them to spec with the wheel still off the ground with no weight on it, then torque them again after a short drive.) It is also why you must chock the other wheels when lifting up any corner, because if you are lifting one of the back wheels then only one tire is holding the car in place. But Ryan should really consider getting some winter tires, the uberturbines only come with summer tires on them and they are extremely unsafe in the cold because the compound hardens leading to situations like that, winter tires would have held the Y in place in those conditions.

@@rodrigosousa9049 This is all a bit controversial, as most things Tesla. My take (and I can also be wrong) is that the long press is an emergency safety override that can be used at any speed, even standing still. Say, your normal hydraulic brakes have failed completely, you can still call upon the electric parking brake to slow you down by a long press of the park button, even if your car can not go into the normal park mode when moving at considerable speed. This electric parking brake system only exists on the rear wheels. So what you are hearing is the car engaging OR resetting/re-engaging the electric parking brake for emergency operation.
@mtristepin
@mtristepin Жыл бұрын
2:33 I think the parking brake is only applied to the rear wheels, as we need to manually press the brake pedal when changing the front tires. That’s also what possibly enabled it to get moving in the first place and I would be interested in knowing if there’s a way to block all 4 wheels when parked

It's not that fascinating. Americans have a combination of things that make this kind of behavior entirely logical. 1) They completely lack any sense of humor 2) They generally disgust everybody that they don't know 3) Stupidity is the norm, it's basically the only place in the world where being stupid makes you step up the social latter. This last point comes back to the first point. Because they are not able to understand sarcasm, when we laugh about their stupidity they feel better about themselves, much like how a 4 year old would react to that. With these 3 basic facts in mind it's logical that they roll coal. They think it's funny and when normal people laugh about how fucking stupid that is, it motivates them to do it some more.

Rheverend, Most electric cars can go 0-60 in under 5 seconds. For a gas car to do that, it is over $130,000 to buy it! Jay Leno raced a Tesla back in 2018 and the grandmother in the Tesla won, Jay was driving a Very fast Cobra with a 426 cubic inch motor in a very light - about 2,400 pound car. While most gas and electric cars can to 100 MPH, it is the electric ones that can really get up and reach 100 MPH in less than 1/4 mile! The California Highway Patrol rates the speed of all cars suitable for Highway Patrol use. The F-150 V6 Ecoboost pickup was faster than the Charger and Mustang a few years ago. (0 to 60 and 0 to 100 MPH). Now the F-150 Lightning is the fastest vehicle they tested! They did not test any Tesla or Rivians yet. They are both faster than the F-150 Lightning.

EDIT: this comment applies to the first clip. While it may seem like a safe following distance… this is a great example of why increasing your distance to 250 feet, at highway speeds, can make a massive difference. Had he been back a bit further he would have had more time to react to the situation and would possibly still be driving an untouched vehicle. The following distance he maintained seemed good enough to most people but to me it wasn’t enough. I used to drive professionally and I’ve seen more incidents than most. Following distance is absolutely critical. One scenario I’ve seen played multiple times to “get back” at tailgaters is the car being followed too closely will purposefully wait until the last second to take evasive action when approaching a stopped line of traffic. The person following too closely won’t have time to change lanes or to stop. They plow into the stopped traffic. I’ve witnessed that very thing many times. It’s incredibly irresponsible of both parties. The person that was intentionally causing the tailgater to crash should absolutely be charged but without them actually admitting to what they’ve done… there is no way to prove they did it purposefully and the person that was following too closely will be charged with everything. Another scenario I’ve witnessed is when people are at about the same distance as the driver in the video… you’re in the perfect spot to receive items picked up by the tires or wind of the vehicle in front of you. It travels in an arc most times and will fall right about where the cammer was following. I’ve personally witnessed a 2 foot long section of 3” pipe be picked up on the highway by the duals on a trailer and flung into the air. It went over the two cars following closely and hit the third right in the windshield. It pierced the windshield and hit the occupant in the passenger seat. Another I’ve witnessed 1:03 was a piece of lumber. It was flung by a trailer and pierced a windshield but only made it a couple inches inside the windshield before stopping. This stuff is VERY common on the roads. It doesn’t always get recorded and it’s not always in the news. Be safe and increase your following distance. It might save your life or someone else’s. Cheers everyone 👋

Some EU countries even have laws for keeping a 2-second distances. It just adds up with the speed. I think it is a pretty good measure for keeping your distance to the car in front. It gives you a lot of time to react. It is easier to count seconds with road-markings than it is to determine distance in feet.

He was folowing at a correct distance, 2 second rule applied! It seems like many people have trouble understanding "folowing distance" (I don't blame them, it's confusing). The correct "folowing distance" is measured in "seconds" (because it varies in function of time -> travel speed), not in feet, meters or any other "distance" measuring method.

@@josephmcclary9667 No, he is saying you should plan as best you can for the unknown. Had he known what vehicles were around him and where he could have hit the brakes and swerved into an empty gap. Had there been a larger gap between him and the vehicle in front he would have had more time to make a decision and take evasive action. Called defensive driving, obviously not something people who buy Teslas are capable of - which is why they buy Teslas. They don't want to think and have the car make the decisions.

Regarding the sliding Tesla: If you park on a steep hill with snow or ice, then the warm of the tires can melt snow and suddenly you loose traction. Parking brake is on rear wheels, since they are locked its a telltale sign that parking brake works as intended.

With the clip that had the Telsa sliding unmanned down the hill in the snow: 1. It's RWD, only the rear wheels are able to be put in park via the drivetrain's gearbox, and/or the parking brake can be used (again, only applies to rear wheels). Parking brake is better though, as it prevents both wheels from individually moving. If it was just the gearbox in park, as soon as one wheel loses traction, the other can spin due to the rear differential. Benefit of AWD Tesla is that front wheels are also placed into park (about equivalent to locking a truck/suv into 4WD and engaging the parking brake).

Wasn't asleep was staying in the lane perfect no swerving he was just there double yellow to his right idk why they were there idk how long they were there. It's almost like they were from Europe and forgot they were in the USA. If I ever went to Europe I don't think I would drive there. It would just seem so odd driving on the left. Tesla cars use the rear brakes for parking (very common), so it's unsurprising to see the front wheels turning. The driveway seemed to have bare pavement and may have been enough to stop the car. Small chance AEB kicked in via the front wheels when the post was detected.

Front wheels on a Tesla always free spin. “Park” is a literal parking brake on Tesla’s unlike a parking pawl in a automatic transmission. Some teslas have a dedicated caliper in the rear for parking while others use the same calipers used to stop the car.

I read about these accounts with regularity, It seems that a solution could be easily thought up, simple hardware on every car that would interact with equipment located on the streets..highways, which would alert the drivers ..Anyone on the highway also alerting the High Way patrol. Also the same equipment on on and off ramps alerting drivers before they get started the wrong way.

If you look at the front wheels on the Tesla that rolled away, the left front tire is actually turning the opposite way the car is sliding, so it was most likely in park. I would be willing to bet the right front was turning backwards, if you jack a car up that's out of gear and spin the right wheel backwards, differential gearing will cause the left wheel will to spin the opposite direction. So there is no doubt that Tesla was in park.
@NoModsCoyote
@NoModsCoyote Жыл бұрын
Parking brakes are only at the rear wheels. Front wheels have an inductive electric motor that does not Regen brake unless the vehicle is powered on. The rear motor that is a permanent magnet motor and will produce electricity when rolling and slow the car even with the vehicle powered down.
