You say that, but in the US there's some weird lack of regulation regarding car safety systems! For example, the Model 3 in the EU/UK is by law required to have an intrusion sensor inside the vehicle, which detects stuff like breaking the rear quarter panel window, or most of the time just sets off the car alarm due to a fly in the car. Yet in the US, it doesn't come fitted with one, so breaking the rear quarter panel window doesn't trigger the alarm.

A nice used model 3 long range can be found for about $28,000. Spending $25,000 plus labor to have a salvaged title isn't worth it. Insurance companies won't pay that much when it gets into an accident. And of course no access to supercharges.

That's an interesting question. Tesla always had a policy of denying supercharger access to vehicles with salvage titles. Then they opened their network to non-Teslas with no way of knowing anything about the title. He could go to a station with Magic docks, which are open to anyone with an app, and they should work. The session would be tied to an account rather than a specific car. Given that, Tesla's policy no longer makes sense.

@@WinstonsGarage I've been doing it for 20 years. I even have my tesla certification and aluminum repair certification from iCar. You did a great job from what I saw. If you documented every step you could use it as your resume to become an apprentice at a body shop. May have to start at the bottom but in under 5 years if you pay attention you will a pro. You can also make great money in that field if you refrain from hack shops. 6 figures is common with top techs.

So he had $25,000 in parts and purchase cost. If Labor cost added in it would be $4,000, so total cost about $29,000. Nothing mentioned about this car having a salvage title? This would make getting insurance difficult/expensive, and a very low resale value. He could have bought a used tesla for $25-$30k in great shape. Great job on the rebuild though.

I know! And $4k labor is super conservative. it took 3 months (although not full time, ASE certified, or an actual shop). But that's what I was thinking is - he spent the same amount as just buying one to rebuild one??? And who knows what may have happened to to like the Li battery that hasn't caused a problem - yet.

The Cams in Teslas are not that great at night, the drivers should have been able to see the lights and reflectors on the truck easier than we see them on the video. BTW it's legal to to a U Turn like that in Texas... It's almost unavoidable in many areas. They have these concrete dividers on many areas.. so you have to go down the road, and then do a U-Turn to come back to where you need to. The Truck was all the way accross the road already. The Tesla would have gotten the ticket if he had hit the truck.. UNLESS there happens to be a NO-U-Turn sign at that location.
