In that first scene (Lahti) it's because all the houses are relatively new, maybe 8 to 15 years old. But yeah, even in scene 5 (Hamari) the houses are mostly in great condition even though some of them are well over 100 years old.

But to each his/her own. I often like to walk around the city center & absorb the many sights, sounds, & smells. I carry a book to a coffeehouse but gladly put it down for a conversation or game with a stranger.
