I took my nana home from a care center Aka old folks home because we live in the middle of nowhere so they integrated the building to work as both a place to heal from hip surgery and live out your final years. I walked in one day to catch a nurse giving her an obviously extremely high dose of liquid morphine and this was after attempting to figure out why she went from coherent and happy, even with a broken replaced healing hip, (she was a freaking badass woman) to seeing things, screaming out in absolute terror and fear like I had never witnessed from her. She was grabbing my arm telling me one day that she had pretended to swallow the medicine but spit in her cup rather than drank it (even in a compromised state the ole bird was smart at hell) she told me then when we were alone that she was not seeing the things she had been since she was spitting out the meds and that she was scared they were trying to hill her faster. I yanked her out of there so fast it made their heads spin after finding out not only were they giving higher doses of the morphine than the doc even recommended and it was ONLY to be given in severe pain cases as she was already on a moderately strong aka one step down from that which was her actual prescribed twice per day medication and morphine was just supposed to be there as a prn with her having the ability to ask for it when she felt she needed it. I demanded the nurses flow sheets, her chart and took her home after making three nurses cry and two physicians attempt to claim they knew nothing about it and swore she would be safer there I informed him that prior to the hip surgery she was just supposed to be going through PT and it was supposed to be a short term stay, I had been helping mama care for her for the year it took them to replace the hip she broke (our med “care system” here is one step below one of those 80/90’s Dolly hospitals where they fixed dolls). They kept insisting she was just having ended stage hallucinations and that she would die in just days. She wanted to go home to die and they didn’t know that she had gotten the meds out of her system through the straw in the cup and was completely coherent plus they could not keep her as she was only supposed to be there three weeks. We were well past the three weeks. They then finally told us the pneumonia she had been in and out of the hospital the entire year before entering that place, constant x rays of her lungs with nobody telling us there was anything more than pneumonia which yes is bad enough, to finally tell us she has end stage cancer in her lungs which metastasized to her entire digestive system from her esophagus to the very end. I was FURIOUS! We got her home and comfy and myself, mom and sis took the best care of her we possibly could she was an entirely different person she only needed the min dose of the original medication lower strength, was up walking with her walker (you couldn’t keep her down😂) I was her official pillow adjuster for nap and night times as she swore nobody else did it correctly 💀. She got to actually enjoy another year with her great grandchildren and we made sure to stay on top of everything as well as worked with home hospice who were absolutely amazing and nana loved the two gals and one male nurse who came to see her and they told us we were doing wife a fantastic job that had they been told of our plan ahead of time they prob would have tried to tell us there was no home other than respecting her wish to be at home (that was good enough reason for me no matter how long we ended up having with her) they all were blown away at just how much she improved and how much longer she was able to get up and spend time with the greats and actually was completely coherent. After going through all the paperwork from the home we realized they were just passing off “care” as a cover for their breed to empty beds and get the most out of underpants and they didn’t give a damn about the well-being and happiness or safety of residents there. I filled a claim against them but idk what came of that. I do now many families recently have removed their loved ones from that particular center and have started a class action suit with several staff resigning before the proceedings could begin though I’m sure they won’t be able to hide from truth. Just as we trust these people to care for our loved ones when they are struggling with something we hope everyone is very careful about where you place your loved ones and really consider if there are ways you can keep them home with the help of at home pt/nursing staff and hospice or home care staff to include nursing and support staff.

Wow! That’s terrifying! Good for you for rescuing her from that hell. I have no doubt should would have had only a few days had you left her there (due to morphine overdosing). E wry one needs to know how dangerous and uncaring these places can be. 😢

The pronunciation makes my teeth ache. Hearing 'draught' come out as 'drawt', not to mention 'must to have done'.. And when 'my liff flashed before my eyes' came up, just made it more obvious it's auto-narrated. Btw, past tense of 'shine' is 'shone', not 'shined'. Stories are generally OK tho.

How does this narrator CONSISTENTLY look at the word ‘existential’ and pronounce the ‘exi’ as ‘eK-STEH’ making the word ‘eK-STEH-sten-shall’, or seeing ‘weaponry’ and saying ‘weapon-DREE’ over, and over, and over again, for both words, across multiple stories????? And ‘nook-YOO-lar’, ‘reel-A-ter’, ‘stricK’ instead of ‘stricT’ but bro can enunciate the fuck out of letters in other words like a champ😂😂. Bogles the mind.
