Hi Steve thanks for your video. I am a senior golfer (74yrs) and hit a fairly long drive for my age 200 to 230 yds on average. My problem is lack of height on my drives! I tee up quite high and hit from inside my left heel (right handed swing). I incline my spine a little to the right at set up, but mostly still strike it too low, though with some speed ( 80 to 85 mph) . If I neglect to add the spine tilt I usually sky the ball. My natural shape is a slight draw.

Get the ball position to the big toe and add more loft on the driver. Report back!

Thanks Steve, brilliantly explained as always. I really enjoy watching your videos as they create such a clear picture for me. I’m definitely mistake number 2. I need to remember to feel like my bum stays back, to prevent my hips coming forward and up. I’ve recently been trying something similar to your baby swing, which I call “tai chi” swings. It involves swinging very slowly and gently whilst checking you hit all the positions. You can then gradually build up the speed. Keen to know if you use this too.

Thanks for all the lessons. I have one question, what does the right hand do to create power for more distance?
@Inmotion70
@Inmotion70 2 ай бұрын
Snaps into flexion in conjunction with the right elbow snapping straight. Like a throw.

Great lesson thanks. Can you tell me if your right hand actively releases/throws the club in that downswing or does your rotation cause the hands to release

Great stuff as usual Steve, is the iron swing the same or more upright?
@Inmotion70
@Inmotion70 Жыл бұрын
Hmm...the shaft is shorter and sits more upright so in that sense you could say it's a bit more vertical.

Sometimes I get careless and roll the wrists on the takeaway which results in a wicked slice and sometimes a pull hook. Not sure where I picked up the habit.

Hi Steve ! I was surprised to hear that swinging more like a ferris wheel was not the goal, Mike repeated multiple times the swing was more like a ferris wheel than a merry go round. Can you please elaborate more on this one?

Where did you hear him say this? He just told me to keep within range of the perfect plane, from shoulder to ear.

need to try this I think my swing plane is more upright rather than flatter...

When I try to do the club throw starting from the top of the backswing, as you suggest in one of your earlier driver swing videos, I end up rolling my forearms and getting a 2 way miss although when it works the ball goes a good distance. Did I misinterpret that video and I should actually be doing a flap starting at the top? In that video it looks like you're rolling your forearms to go around the pole.

The timing is right, the forearm action is not, and possibly the club path. Flap it don't flip it.

So swinging under plane both ways? Or under the 45 angle? A lot of coaches would say thats wrong, but I dont know. Explain pls!
@Inmotion70

Well I rarely see anyone swinging under plane both ways, but lots of people swinging too steeply, so I think it's a good image. Hogan told us to stay at or under the glass.

what do you think of Pete Cowan's videos? golf is hard enough, and then your videos say one thing, and (to me) his videos say something very different. are there any other youtube teachers you could recommend? I like to hear/watch things done/explained in different ways - it could help my understanding...

Most commenters find me similar to Mike Malaska in teaching. I don't think I've ever watched Pete.

@@Inmotion70 thank you for your response. Pete Cowan is one of those who want the lag to be held until impact. All of you (youtube golf instructors) hit the ball so well, it is hard for me to argue which method works best, or more importantly, which works best for me. We all want distance and accuracy, but for me, I think I want distance more right now. I can shoot a mid-80 score with decent chipping and putting, but the lack of distance (my 150 club is a well-struck 6 iron, and my driver goes maybe 220) is holding me back.
