Thank you Steve. You described me perfectly. Im 71. I’m the 190-200 yard hitter with the driver off the tee with a good hit. I’m straight and score consistently in the low 80’s; very occasionally, a 78-79. I have a story. At my course there is a small creek that is 190 yards out on 2 par 5s. If that creek wasn’t there my tee ball would roll past that creek and I’d have a fair chance to get a par. BUT because I can’t get past that creek, I have to lay up with a 5 wood. Then hit another good 5 wood (sometimes twice, because it’s uphill) into the green! I often will miss those greens because of the long approach; so I have to get up and down to make a par. Sooo frustrating. I have friends I play with, who hit from the tee one further back, who consistently carry that creek. I would be scoring 2-3 strokes better all the time if I didn’t have to lay up on those two holes! Your tips could really help me. I am excited to explore this and work on it AND I WILL! Thanks again.

I can attest to the frustration of short hitting. I quit golf years ago due to my 140 yard drives. There are a number of holes on most courses where even the short tees are too far from the fairway to reach the short grass unless you can consistently hit 180 or so. You instruction will help many people keep playing the game.

Great drill. It uses a principle that Paul Bertholy advocated where you freeze at the position you want in the follow through as a way to engrain it into the neuromuscular system. "This is where I want to be," and then trust the system to get you there.

Steve - I am 72 but still in pretty good shape. I used to be near scratch but I think I have just gotten lazy and started doing all 3 of these things, which I know is wrong, I am one of those who have a ONE in front of my driver distance and I feel embarrassed to even play with my guys. I realize, thanks to your video, these are the things I have to work on and get back to doing well. Thanks so much for your vids.

First get your clubhead speed accurately checked, and let me know what model and loft driver you're using.
@Blaaww1
@Blaaww1 Жыл бұрын
80 % of your distance is from where you hit the ball on the club face. The center of the club face or the sweet spot will maximize your distance. The rest is club head speed. If you have trouble with club head speed 9/10 you are casting you club. Need to create proper lag. Proper lag feels a lot more effortless. I recommend compacting you swing and focus on great contact. Me personally, I have done this and I on average drive it 240/250 carry plus roll out on what feels like a half to three quarter swing. If I really go after one and square it up I hit it like 290 but i lose a ton of control or accuracy. So sweet spot and proper lag/set up👍

All I know is that nothing works. If I try to increase my club head speed I heel the shot or top it. If I slow down my swing I get good contact on my drive goes 150 yards. Everyone's got tips, everyone tells me not to make mistakes and that just makes things worse. It's not that hard to put one object up against another object and make connection but my tee box anxiety is ruining everything. Thank you for your video though. I'm sure it helps.
@Inmotion70

I can feel your frustration. You might try practicing fast, but then swinging smooth on the tee. Let speed sneak up on you. Check fundamentals that lead to distance.
@FlankerJackChannel
@FlankerJackChannel Жыл бұрын
@@Inmotion70 thank you though I don't know what fundamentals will increase the distance. If I slow my back swing down and try to accelerate past the ball I still can't hit it properly. No worries.

Very interesting. But contrary to you recommends the famous Pete Cowen to pull down the arms in the downswing, then turn around from the delivery position.
@Inmotion70
@Inmotion70 Жыл бұрын
If there was an electromyograph attached to my lats you would see 'pull down' force for sure. And the turn of the body causes a 'pull' force on the handle too. However, our goal is to reduce (feels like eliminate) any pulling feeling and his advice to 'pull down the arms' is absolutely disastrous for most amateur golfers.
