I’d put smart thermostats on this list

We include a smart stat on every install if they want one… some people prefer “simple” on / off but I agree, WiFi control is where it’s at

Not so smart if you connect it to WIFI and the Govt decides you are using too much electric, and they adjust it for you. Sound outrageous? It has already happened.

@@TheHVACDopeShow WIFI is definity NOT where it is at when ashoe gov decides what you are and not allowed to do and how much and when.

@@NoNORADon911 that was a program customers could sign up for where they’d get a rebate if they let the power company reduce air conditioning during time of peak energy demand to prevent rolling blackouts. That option exists in most areas for customers which have dumb thermostats too in the form of a remotely controlled cutoff switch connected to the compressor

@@keco185 Ok then explain Amazon shutting a guys house down because a driver thought he was called the N word. Look that up. He could not get past his smart locks and I forget what other BS, point is you never want others to be able to control your locks, appliances, thermostats, CARS (electric or Onstar) etc. Do you think they care what the rules or laws are if they are not enforced? Its kind of the wild west if you have not noticed.

EPA recommends a MERV rating 13 filter, most techs might say it's better to use a 1" cheap throw away that you change out every month so it don't restrict air flow, although they are correct a thicker filter does restrict air flow, and could possibly create issues, however most techs don't measure the duct work to make sure it's sized correctly, because that is the root of the problem, the job of the cheap filter is to keep things from getting sucked into the furnace, increasing filtration to a better style or thickness such as a 4" or even a higher MERV rating filter is meant for cleaner air in the home, reducing dust & POCs creating healthy indoor air, by adding these better products may reduce air flow and put a more slight load on system and cost more, but you got to ask yourself, what's more important your health or paying a little more for a system, again, if the duct work is sized correctly you shouldn't really have a problem. The EPA says that the air inside our homes is 5-100 times more polluted than out door air, and as a society we build our homes tighter than ever trapping all that inside, our kids stay inside more than ever playing video games, look at the stats on asthma over the last 20 years, the #1 killer for US is lung disease, how do we get lung disease, Air pollution is a big contribution.

4” makes a huge difference we definitely recommend this, I agree with ductwork it’s always an uphill battle but in Colorado at least and a lot of areas we don’t have the ability to easily replace concealed ductwork with properly sized ductwork, but a 1” filter will always create a higher restriction

Filter the indoor air. Either one expensive filter that does both particulates and voc. Or two separate filters. The HVAC filter doesn’t do a good job filtering your homes air. Keeps the coils from getting dirty. I have 2 corsi rosenthal filter boxes. One is activated carbon for voc. The other merv14 for particulates

It says the warranty isn’t covered unless it’s branded “Armstrong Ducane or Concord” so basically has no warranty and it still requires professional installation. I’d rather install a Goodman if I was going for a basic contractor’s grade system.

We are replacing the 31 year old spider ductwork in our attic this week and our the HVAC contractor is planning on using mastic tape vs non-hardening mastic sealant on all the joints. Should I insist on the messier non-hardening sealant? Is it a good idea to use the non-hardening sealant layered over top of the mastic tape?
@TheHVACDopeShow
@TheHVACDopeShow 5 ай бұрын
Tape is fine, if you want it to be really sealed aeroseal is kind of the “best” but that’s normally a separate contractor.

Do you recommend a blast test after replacing ductwork? Is this required by most local codes for new construction?

They produce ions which kills the viruses and bacteria that are air borne. Could you look into this? That’s what I tell my clients. The UV light is to kill bacteria on surfaces. The ionization is what does the job. At least what I found when doing my research

Yes I’ll look into it more… I’ve been trying to get some clarity, what I’ve found in the most recent video about ozone is about the most definitive answer I have gotten on adverse effects

Uv is nonsense there is no science that shows it’s effective on air moving at 700 cfm with this low level up please stop this recommendation u look foolish and uninformed . Yes very high uv (so high it’s dangerous and the room needs to be evacuated)for long periods of time on static surfaces is effective hospital decontaminate Operating rooms this way all the time but it is useless on the airflows and situations in home HVAC systems where it does have some utility is bathing the coil, pan coil and the pan we can get nasty with bugs and it can be quite effective and put there just note that with an egg coil, you probably need to put two lights inso please get your facts straight. Do this do your homework stop buying and believing advertising from the companies that make UV lights and scare people
