I assumed he wasn't doing that because of potential copyright issues. But maybe play the whole fill initially, then break it down. Or even just play the audio of the fill from the recording? He jumps straight into the breakdown rather than playing the fill first, then breaking it down. So we don't have the big picture first. For guys like me that have been listening to Bonham since Led Zepplin was putting out stuff, no biggie, but for someone just getting into it, I bet they are going "Huh?" what is this lick? until he plays it at the end.

Excellent! Thank you for this Stephen. I grew up listening to Led Zep in the 70’s in the same part of the England midlands as them. As a drummer myself, John Bonham was my hero. However, an intro I have always loved, yet never been able to replicate sufficiently is Ian Paice’s ‘Fireball’. Apologies if you’ve already covered that, I’m still catching up with your work. Of course Deep Purple May be totally uninteresting for you, and the piece I’m referring to may in fact be more simple than I’m making it out to be... Whatever, I’m really enjoying your channel. Good stuff! I would add that, according to Robert Plant, D'yer Mak'er is pronounced "Jamaica", a slang pronounciation of "ja make haa", or "did you make her". He said he gets a kick out of how Americans pronounce it. I believe I remember him saying that they were going for a reggae type feel, but Bonham had a different approach on the drums. For the longest time I puzzled over that song title. Now, Robert Plant's explanation makes sense of it.

Martin Squire I don’t think mispronouncing one songs name means I’ve completely ignored the entire genre of popular music known as reggae. It simply means I didn’t know how to pronounce the words and pronounced them as they would have been phonetically pronounced in my native tongue. Simmer your slow boil there.

it's not called "D’yer Mak’er". well, it is. but it's not pronounced that way. it's not phonetic. it's slang for 'did you have sex with her' --"did you 'make' her". it's pronounced like Jamaica, with an R at the end (did ya maker), but quickly and slang-y Jamaica?/Jamaicer?: D’yer Mak’er. this is how Robert Plant tells it.

The matter of who plays the drum kit with bare hands? Well Joe Morello did and it has similarities to Moby Dick, so brilliant Bonzo was presumably inspired by brilliant Joe. PS. It'd nor pronounced dyer maker, it's a piece of humour from an old Brit joke, which goes... My wife has gone to the Carribean, oh Jamaica? No she went of her accord... It's probably better heard than read... 🙄

Rock & Roll was nothing more than Bonham trying to cop from Earl Palmer's Keep A Knockin' with Little Richard. by his own account and echoed by JPJ, he couldn't exactly nail it, but he got a cool intro beat out of it. I love Bonham too, but too many of you think he did everything first, and he didn't. he was proud of his influences and wore them on his sleeve. you want to really understand John Bonham? go listen to what he listened to, the drummers who taught him what to do. discover where he came from, then you'll understand. we all have influences, and our influences did, too. we all have heroes, but most of them didn't re-invent the wheel. but their heroes and influences did. invest some time into them. you won't be sorry and it only makes us better drummers

'Infamous' doesn't mean famous. 'Infamous' means 'famous for being bad'. Serial killers are infamous. Assassins are infamous. Drummers aren't. Well, most of them anyway. 'Notorious; is another word that is misused. It means the same as infamous - well known for being bad. People seem to think that it means the same as noteworthy. It doesn't. And how about all those ghost notes? And how about all that "swing" he had? Its all jazz baby.Bonham just changed the rules a little instead of leading with the ride and comping with the kik and snare,he lead with the kik and comped on the backbeat.Bonham was a jazz drummer ,on steroids

I heard John solo with Zeppelin twice, and I played at the time. But for me it's not the technicial teaching behind it.its the spontainious passion and attack ,with other players that allowed him to blow it out.If you look at Buddy Rich when he played and soloed ,basic attitude ,let it rip,in every way you know.To much analysis creates a lot of dry boring scientist ,doesn't stir up the beast I'm me.

Hey don't know why, you guys get so much abusive from so many small minded morons, OK they might not agree with you, but I'd say to them if you think can do better, go for it, but trouble is bud their mums don't let them on line much 😀😀 anyway u know Bonzo and Moonie are watching u, laughing saying I loved pretending to be human ☺🙋 from the UK 100% Zep country, love to talk about Terry Bozzio, Chad Wakerman and Chester Thompson, ya I'm a Zappa freak ....laters ✌

Bonzo had said in an interview, "It's not how you play or who you are...It's feeling the groove. He had that insight. Even Teens of Today hear me blasting Isolated Drum Tracks from him, and they ask who it is. They Love Zeppelin; four guys that were tight-knit, geniuses that worked together. If anyone "tires" of John Bonham, they should listen to Disco. The Song, 'Beware My Love, has a Version with Bonzo on Drums. Paul is not singing his best at all, but Bonzo gives his Signature Sound, giving it more depth. Joe English is on the Recording used on the Album, using alot more Cymbals, and it is a different style, but Bonzo's is better.. HE is THE Greatest Drummer and Moby Dick is solid proof of that. Thank You!!! Remember: If you ever hear Thunder, it's BONZO having a go at it for Eternity... 💖

Hi Stephen, I've been a fan of Bonham since I first heard "Good Times Bad Times" when I was 13 at school. I think back now, how lucky I was. I learned to play drums and JB was always my influence although I never tried to copy anything until now. Wrong video, but I watched your Bonham Fills video and I just love how he plays across the bars in "Bring It On Home" 3:04 mins into the song, check it out. I'm seriously thinking of getting another drum kit, I started young and got disillusioned by players in some bands, esp the last band I played in 1996 and lost all interest in playing in a band, but seeing your videos, I don't see why I can't just play for my own enjoyment. Thanks for the videos and looking forward to seeing what happens

Hands-down the song would be rock ‘n’ roll simply because they opened up with it for almost all their live shows my all-time favorite band Led Zeppelin & Rock and roll all-time favorite song

As far as the intro to 'Rock and Roll", If your not an open handed player , try playing ( for right handed players) the Hi Hat with the left hand and the Snare with right . It just falls into place and really makes it easier to play , only my humble opinion.

The lumbering swagger of levee is one of my favorites right beside d'yer mak'er. But there's nothing Bonham did that wouldn't be applicable for worlds greatest.

Bonham was one of the best of all times, Moon... but no other rock drummer is better than Neil Peart. He is at least 1 year light from others drummers...his meticulosit is incomparable.
