Hi Andrew, I just came across your channel and have been enjoying the clear and concise instructional videos you have posted. In regard to the spiral or snake roll I have noticed that many other videos place a great deal of importance on the first move being to raise the rod toward your near bank which you do not. Your casts launch beautifully without doing this so I wonder why others have made this such an issue.

Hi, I’m sorry for the late reply. I’m glad the videos have been helpful for you. You can do either. Sometimes with a longer belly tracking away from your target first is helpful. I find lines with head lengths under 50’ just tracking straight up and under is an easy and quick way to get the cast done. Main thing is to have upward momentum when circling underneath and making sure to keep the rod tip high in the front and level through the back. Hope this helps. Tight Lines, Andrew

Hi Sylvia. In this video the line was a Sci Angler 450 grain Scandi connected to a running line with a 10' poly and tippet tapered out 6 feet or so. The rod was an Echo 12' Compact Spey. Thank you for watching! Andrew

I am Italian, Nice video, very clear in the explanation, I subscribed to your channel. I have a rod similar to yours, Loop 12'2" #6 with SA Scandi 430 grain, when I use the poly 10' sink 3 or 5 the snake roll does not turn well. SA Scandi is 34' long + 10' tip. Do you think if I use Rio Scandi Short Versitip long 23' + 10' with sink 3 or 5 turns better?
