I noticed the running and mainline are connected via a join running through the guides. I’m using a Rio coastal quickshooter line which is a normal single hand fly line. Would it be better to have a thinner running line to a main head line like you do. A website link to the line would be great

How do you connect running line to head? It's looking smooth on your set.

The head is loop to loop with the running line. The running line I'm using is a .026 Rio which is thin and goes through the guides smooth. Thank you, Andrew

@TightLinesinNJ I heard some fishermen leaving longer tag on running line knot( 1" - 1.5") to go smoother through rings. I'm asking because that connection is pain for me. Thinking to swich to integrated runing line

I got an old used beulah 9/10 surf rod. I've tried so many heads and I can't quite get it dialed in right. The irony is that so far 30' T17 to me casts the best with a OPST commando head with 10' t14 in a close second. However, the casts sometimes feel a little mushy and I dump a lot. Do you have a personal recommendation of a shooting head?

Hi, sorry for the delay in my response as I was traveling with limited wifi. I really like intermediate skagit heads (Sci Angler) with heavy duty poly leaders (Airflo) for this rod. No worries! Thank you for the suggestions. In the end I went with an SA S7 titan taper @550gr for this. Gave up on the mono shooting line. Too many close calls from fingers slipping.@@TightLinesinNJ

In this video it was an Echo Compact Spey 12' 8 weight with a Sci Angler intermediate skagit head. This particular rod is a very versatile 2 hander as it has a great length and flex profile for both overhead and spey casting.

Awesome. It’s flys out. I’m just getting into double handed fishing for sea bass in the uk and bought a SH Rio coastal quick shooter 2 lines up for my 12.6, 7 weight.
