Excellent information regarding the weight of the fabric and the difference in breathability. Regarding the non-cotton materials: in your opinion, how would you rate the softness compared to cotton? Which ones are softer than cotton or is cotton the softest? These are all designed for no fabric softener since it affects the fire resiso, correct? Hey Dave! Great question. There is a little trade off because the non cotton FR items can be lightweight and breathable but a little rough to start. When you see Nomex or Kevlar in the make up you know the garment will be a little rough to start. After 5-10 washes the garment will soften up a bit for you. Out of all the non cotton FR Garments we have I would say Tecgen by National Safety is the most comfortable and just as soft as cotton. It has been our best selling non cotton FR garment. I would conclude that a lot of the non cotton FR fabric softens up after washing and drying but that takes time and you have to decided whether it is worth it. Fabric softener will compromise the FR properties of your garments so please stay away from that.
