One of Elder God's most secret ability is to read other people's feelings and thoughts. He use it mostly on Raziel, but this ability can give him a sense of where is everyone on Nosgoth. That's how he knows where is Mobius or Kain at all times, or what will Raziel do.

Just check what he ended up doing: Release the Hylden, delivered them the last of the Ancient Vampires as a vessel for the Hylden Lord, erradicating finally the last of his kind, kills Kain, and he then let's himself killed by the sword. Aside from Kain's resurrection, nothing of this was outside of what the Elder God wanted to happen. He's only pissed off at the idea of not getting more souls immediatly.

And we can't forget his acerbic response of "Apparently I am." to his former human self accusing him of being a righteous fiend. I love how absolutely done Raziel is with everybody's shit in these games.The Elder gets the worst of it to be sure, but he roasts just about everyone he comes across, even eventually snapping at Janos Audron, who was the one person he ever had a civil conversation with, "The world could end this instant for all I care." I wish we could have had a flashback or something to give us a glimpse of what he was like as a vampire, when he was happy. I'm sure his sense of humor would have been just as dry, but considerably less bitter.

Damn I remember cleary when father came to me with a disc of PS1 game called Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, where Raziel meet his terrible fate and seeks vengeance against his brothers. I was something over 10-12 years old, and this game touched me a lot. Untill today, this game is my favorite. Hope someday they make the rest of this art.

Also, in Soul Reaver, Dumah (also an elder vampire) could also be considered a Revived Vampire. Although he didn't emit the blue sparks, and his disembodied soul didn't look like a typical Vampire Wraith, his soul had spent a long time in the Spectral Realm. He had the long-range soul-sucking ability of a Vampire Wraith/Revived Vampire.

Imagine a cult promising a ballance, prosperity and eradication of evil, while setting you up against apparent enemy, but upon closer inspection masks fall off and you learn you served evil instead... I don't think it's ever really confirmed one way or the other - the elder god definitely has the power to resurrect folks (see: Moebius, for example), and it's certainly feasible to assume that he created Raziel, but the game never tells us for sure.

Hmmm... it is pretty likely that when the first game was created the developers did have the idea in mind that Raziel was given a shot at redemption by the elder god etc because the game was originally meant to have an ending there an then (i.e no soul reaver 2 originally planned). This is also in-keeping with the theme of the Legacy of Kain series (person dies, offered another chance by powerful benefactor which comes at a price such as thirst for blood / souls, and then revenge).

one of the best games i have ever played were the legacy of kain series. though i havent played all the episodes just a few(BO2, LOK-SR1, LOK-D) this series it got me mezmerized with its complex and brilliant story line. and not to mention the characters, Kain and Raziel are my favorite gaming characters, because of their well formed personalities. i hope that one day there's gonna be another chapter in the story. until that day, this game kicks ass dude:D

The soul-devouring aspect of the Soul Reaver, however, *is* Raziel, so it's not beyond reason that the Elder God (assuming he is being truthful about creating Raziel) would be benefiting from every soul the Reaver took. But really, he didn't create Raziel (again, if we believe he did) to devour souls for him generally speaking, he created him to kill Kain and his vampire lackies - who were upsetting the Elder God's balance of lift -> death -> rebirth.

No, actually, the soul reaver, as other similar creatures, reaves wandering souls, which brings them back to the wheel... so by reaving souls, he serves the Elder God.

But one thing is for sure: He has no power to destroy him, and we know, both by means of the whole story and Moebius in particular, that Raziel truly has free will, even though it only served him properly right before the end. I think if the Elder God created Raziel, He should be able to unmake him, as he even threatened to do in SR2. Besides, giving Free Will to a creation doesn't help a despot at all

EG has some power of life and death due to being connected ot the Wheel of Fate, the quetion is is he the master of the Wheel as he claims or just a parasite on it its implied he cannot actually kill raziel nor directly control him so its assumed he didnt actually create him, just happened ot find him in the lake of dead, undying but connected ot the wheel for some reason(Being an immortal being is supposed ot expel you from it)

Soul Reaver 2 solidifed the idea that Raziel should not trust the Elder God, but ever since Sr1 Raziel made it clear he wasnt serving the EG, he was serving his own self interest to get revenge. once Raziel was aware of his Nature and the ancients he figured the EG was a bit too interested on seeing Kain Dead to have a righteous Agenda. Defiance made this distrust into an outright rebellion. as you spend the early stages finding means ot remvoe youir dependence on the system the Eg had setup for you.

However, I think they should do a game that bridges Blood Omen 1 and Soul Reaver 1 (And technically the ending to SR2), following Kain's rise to power, and his siring of his generals - including Raziel. And a sequel to that that tracks the fall of Kain's Empire as the pillars crumble and corrupt.

And the real answer is that Raziel was being contained by the Elder God, and time passes differently on the spectral realm, 500 years can seem like an eternity and at the same time 500 years can seem like such a short time, I guess the Elder God had something to do with it since Raziel was surprised he was even that long on the underworld.

Every concept like sin, heresy, salvation and other, comes from such being. Fact that we don't like such god doesn't really mean that he isn't one. Honestly it always felt like it skipped something as a continuation of Soul Reaver 2. I mean, at the end of SR2 you're (probably trapped) in the Sarafan fortress, and now he's magically speaking to the god... It would be cool to have another shot at Raziel by making some kind of prequel to Defiance tbh

Well, at the end of SR2, he slips into the spirit realm - it's the last thing we see happen, and is particularly story relevant because when Kain has his big revelation and tries to warn Raziel that "Janos must stay dead", that's why he doesn't hear it. This intro implies that he's spent a long time defying the Elder God, and he's had plenty of time to move about in the spirit realm whilst doing so. There's surely a lot left to our assumptions in between, but I don't think it's unreasonable.

@@Joudas sure, I agree, and no it's not unreasonable - but it would be cool to see Raziel having fun with the god (relatively speaking), and maybe jumping from a place to another all while trapped in the spiritual realm. Like, considering SR2's way of treating it as opposed to Defiance, he can't even climb "stairs"/walls, so it would be interesting to see what kind of mechanic could be exploited to reach Defiance's opening; like, maybe, a totally new mechanic that works only for the spectral realm. I think I'd like seeing it being explored more into depth

What are this guys talking about....the Elder God revived Raziel's corpse and maked him one of his Soul Reavers with just one purpose: to kill Kain. Why? Because Kain is the Scion of Balance and the central figure in Nosgoth dominion. When he revived Raziel he splitted him from the Wheel of Life, giving him true Free Will.

its actually debatable if the EG was involved in that Raziel's ressurection as a wraith has been implied to be somethnig that just happens because his role in history says it does, this is supported for apparently Raziel being tied ot the wheel itself(his souls feed the Elder god who is atthe center of it) and the Reaver blade's progression
