Holy crap that is an EXPENSIVE apple!!! I've seen other videos where they're saying that the prices are going up so fast that the workers can't even change the stickers fast enough. So it might have legitimetly been that price even if the bin said otherwise.

If there is ever a time you go into Walmart, and don’t have something ring up wrong, something is up 😂 everything rings up more at the register now days. You did good! I’m blaming Walmart for that apple. Also, Breydon has requested that French Toast next grocery day. We love banana on toast, so that has gotta be 10X better! I had to edit this in… I just finished a video with the same basic egg Salad and veggies on the side! Girl we are on the same wave length! We gotta be soul sisters at this point lol!

Grabbing a few condiment packets and coffee creamers from the gas station, sauce packets from restaurants, honey packets from Starbucks and condiment packets from the grocery store deli counter make for easy stocking of lots of little ingredients!

I love it! We get so dependent on buying extra things that we don’t need. My friends all think I’m crazy because when I get coffee I ask for cream and sugar on the side, even though I drink it black, or packets of Mayo/mustard on the side of a sandwich/burger place. Because when I was a kid and homeless sometimes those packets were the difference between edible and yummy!

These were great ideas. The inspiration really helps. I made meatballs with flairinara (that’s my homemade marinara made out of leftover diced tomatoes, pepper sauce :) and rice for lunch it was like spaghetti without the noodles (I cannot eat wheat) I used stale tortilla chips on a whim as the meat filler and my .25 clearance breakfast sausage. I had an idea. I would like to keep my budget for a family of 3 down to a total of $200 this month - that is $30 for food and $20 for beverage. I went to the store though and I’ve pretty much already spent that budget. My new idea - buy bigger quantities and go to store less. We are making our way through a 5 lb bag of carrots :).

I like your videos, good information. In all honesty if I only have 5.00 for the day my diet will not have fruit unless it's a banana...lol and my veggie would be a canned item and put most of my money on more filling foods. It's really tough to afford "fresh" fruits and veggies. My grocery budget is a strict 200.00 and that doesn't always consist of fresh produce. Luckily we do grow all of our salad fixings.

Great job! There are all sorts of ways someone could modify this depending on the pantry staples or other ingredients they have on hand or not. You can make egg salad with mustard or even salad dressing instead of mayo for example. Any extra veggies from a prior grocery haul could be added to the ramen. You could even cut out the butter from a lot of this if you don’t have butter. You can cook with oil or just water, change up the seasonings and sauces… so many possibilities!

I love your videos Mandy! They are so inspiring and motivate me to think outside the box! I’ve been able to use a few of your meal ideas to cut our grocery budget some weeks which has been great. I’m curious what your thoughts are in suggesting people use the leftover condiments they receive from fast food restaurants to help flavor their meals? Certain restaurants will give you small to go containers of their seasoning salt as well (we ask for it in the side so we control how much is on our food), but for sure people could easily come by mayonnaise, butter, salt and pepper (I’m sure other condiments as well) like you used in the video for free. Just a thought to help people that may not have pantry staples on hand. 💗

Make some cream of carrot soup with ginger in it... serve some of your bread with it or make a carrot-pineapple cake for dessert. Just some extra ideas to think about to stretch your basic ideas for family instead of just one person. I have never tried Store brand (GV) Mac and cheese...but I am going to try it with a can of chili to see how it could work as chili Mac. That was a great menu for the day! I consider the brown sugar, mayo & soy sauce a cheat HOWEVER if I had only $5 a day for a week (5x7) then with $35 I could buy those items to use throughout the week and have for later too. I think buying some seasonings, butter and condiments needs to be included so shopping the budget a week or month at a time is much more practical than 1 day at a time. Imho this was a very educational video both in what to do -healthier ingredients than many vids of this type- and what not to do -look longer term than one day- Thanks for the great video!
@allthingsmandy2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree 100% about shopping for longer than a day. If you commit to buying 1-2 seasonings each shopping trip- you can build up your pantry in order to have great seasonings on hand!

Your bananas foster french toast looks great! That is such a great idea and would work well for another day with any leftover bread too. I am thinking sauteed apple done the same way as that banana would be a great topping too. I probably would only be able to eat one piece as they are soo big in comparison to the thin wimpy sandwich bread I usually use. I am trying to feed 2 adults on a low budget. When I saw your egg salad sandwich, I thought that needs some crunchy lettuce which brought to mind bacon because, bacon. By then I was so close to a BLT that all it needs is a beautiful slice of tomato. I think that is going to be our lunch today. Open faced Egg salad BLT's with apple slices on the side. I have a couple of slices of tomato left from last night's burgers and 2 slices of already cooked bacon too. I'm going to crumble the bacon so I only need one slice per person. Also making it open faced only uses one slice of bread. So I took it from an extreme budget to a lowish budget. I just bought a loaf of sourdough for scrambled eggs and toast for breakfasts and then here you are with other meal ideas too. I have to try to keep every day fresh without repeats as often so we don't tire of a dish. I would use the rest of that bread for bread pudding. Panzanella salad is another great way to use up that bread. Another favorite is making bruschetta or crostinis. Thanks for the inspiration!

When we get to the end of the loaf of bread, no one wants the heals so I toss them on a cookie sheet in the oven…. Once they totally dry out, run them thru the food processor and I’ve got bread crumbs. No waste and no need to buy expensive store bread crumbs. Plain or add your favorite herbs .

I'd get the ramen, beef is 26 cents here. I'd get a package of Buddig honey ham 80 cents. My fav way is microwaving covered with just 1/3 the flavor pack and some dried minced onion and just enough water to cover the ramen. 90 seconds, then I turn it over with a fork, rip the ham into bite sized pieces then cover and 90 seconds more. Comes out perfect every time. I'd get a cucumber 76 cents, roma tomato 29 cents, fresh kale 98 cents and a banana 23 cents. Rice 1 pound 76 cents and 6 eggs 86 cents. I only need a couple of slices of the ham for the ramen, the half the rest I would chop up with the kale and a couple of eggs and fry up the rice. Cucumbers and tomato are nice with just salt and vinegar if I have it. Ham and eggs scramble up nice. Banana's snack nice with any part. I'm sure I'd have tons left over kale, rice and cucumber for another day.

After watching you make dinner with the reman noodles I thought how great that dish would be with some diced chicken. When I buy family packs of chicken I always set aside a single breast for just those sort of dishes. Slice the meat extremely thin or dice it. Looks like you’ve got more than just one breast but that’s ok. A bite of meat in every forkful. Or just cook the entire breast use half of it and shred the rest and make chicken salad with those eggs and bread.

Considering that you got six eggs, a big bag of carrots, and an entire loaf of bread - all of which will last more than one day for one person, I'd say you actually only spent around $3 for one day of food, and shift the cost of the left-overs to the next day's budget because that's how 'real life' grocery budgets work.

I bet you could feed 2 people on this challenge if you really had to. Good ideas. If someone didn’t have mayonnaise for egg salad, they could just do a fried egg sandwich.

It looks like someone put the wrong apple in that bin. If you look closely at the video, the apples in the bin have a 4135 number and the Honeycrisp you purchased is numbered 3283. In theory, if you had asked the cashier about the price of the apple when at the cash register, she is supposed to call for a price check and if you have the wrong product due to someone misplacing it on the shelf, they will provide you with the correct item at the correct price OR let you have the item at the price on the bin. In reality, if they are busy (and when is Walmart NOT busy?), they will have you go to the managers station and get it fixed. And I suspect that if you are doing self checkout, you are on your own as the employee overlooking that area rarely does anything other than hit a few keys in hopes of fixing whatever went wrong!

In Canada, they are supposed to still give you the wrongly priced/misplaced item for free!

Yes, I was doing self checkout and truly didn't realize until I got home and looked over the receipt. I learned a big lesson that day!

Everyone is complaining about Walmart's pricing errors and how they feel like they are being cheated.

Yeah, I totally needed to read that apple sticker! Thanks for watching!

I hate that you calculate even the tax and once you hit the register it’s always off. Under or over. Price should be correct when you pick up the item. 🙄 Math just don’t be mathing. 🤦🏽♀️ Also, I love your channel. Love your meal ideas. ❤
