I’m pouring a 30x60’ slab in the next few weeks for my sawmill shop. Initially, I was going to pay someone to do everything, but after watching your videos for the last few months and doing a few small pads on my own I have the confidence now to do the 30x60. All I’m paying for now is the concrete and materials. Oh, I also purchased the Topcon Laser because it’s cool and I’m always doing something around the farm. Thank you. Lou @ Summer Breeze Sawmill.

I’ve got the same size pad to pour. I’ve done a little bit of concrete work but this would be my first time doing it with folks who have not done this before. It definitely helps to hear all the informaton and see how things work. You have to have a good eye to keep the concrete at the correct level before screening or it’s a lot of muscle. I think that’s going to be the hardest part.

Pins would have saved dragging that Crete up in there before screedig!, also put in a couple "pins" Grade points. ALL forms solid AT grade! Pour the thing out real quick! When Front end drivers are good and like pouring for you it's magic. I once poured 22 yds of 5' wide by 4" thick county walk by myself. It was like 2:00 and I turned other 2 guys on my crew loose to pour a driveway across town. Walk needed hand tool joints at 5', expansion every 50' w 4 handicap stamps. 6" slump max. When 1st truck starts dumpin I pick up my come along and driver nails his horn and shakes his head no. He laid down 10 ' and I started striking and he kept puttin down 5 to 10' in front of me. 2nd driver did the same. Poured both out w only stop for bull float. Bad ass Drivers from Grand Rapids Michigan. Moved to Florida and rear end drivers bitch about 3 guys on a 2 yd patio pour with 2 wheel barrels. Some drivers say challenge accepted and some whine.

Yes. You need a slump cone which is 12 inches high, 8 wide at the bottom and 4 at the top. . You fill it with cement, rod the air out and lift the cone off. The slump is the amount the pile collapses from its 12" height. A 5" slump would leave you with a 7" pile. We don't do normally do more than 4" slump without reducer.

I want to do a concrete patio but I am afraid I'll mess up somehow. Never done it before but I've always been interested in concrete and forming. You guys make it look easy, though.😂👍

Jim , good tradesmen make it look easy....dont be fooled, it's bloody hard work. As a carpenter who has been on site for 40 years , I can sincerely suggest you pay a concreter to lend you a hand....concrete is forever and you only get one shot at it. Good luck mate.

Yes Jim , I've done quite a bit of concreteing and there's a knack to it that only comes from experience...lots of experience.... therefore my efforts are VERY ordinary 😄😄 . It's good to do your own work at home , quite the feeling of accomplishment after a hard days grafting....who knows you might even get lucky 😉👍👍

I can see that you guys know what you’re doing but why didn’t you leave the form out so you can back the truck in instead of using that extended Shute? I would rather take a minute setting the form up then to muck all of that mud.I am going on my 30th year of doing this trade and it’s always good to watch the other pros get it done.
