Two key plays that nearly cost Michigan the game: (1) Corum's injury and fumble inside the red zone, just as it looked as if we would maybe get a touchdown before the half to make it a much more comfortable 14-3 lead going into the second half. Instead, we lose possession and worse, we lose Corum for the rest of the game (at least); and (2) that fourth down play where we not only don't get a clear offsides call but have a ball that should have been a touchdown go right through our receiver's hands. That's a big swing if those plays are otherwise. I hope Corum can go next week, and that we get some sticky gloves for our receivers.

Morris, Schiemaker, Edwards, Keegan, higdan, could all have played and instead, we sat them out for precautionary reasons, if that is not looking ahead, I don't know what is smh 🤦🏼♂️ Oh, and our passing game sucks. This game really demonstrated how unprepared Michigan looks for their upcoming game against ohio state. Michigan 100% should have lost this game. The offense once again couldn’t get it going in the first half. And the wolverines once again kept choking in the red zone, or coming up empty entirely, even after it seemed like the universe was trying to hand Michigan the win. Take the 4th quarter, Illinois punted the ball from their own 11 and Michigan ended up returning it to the Illinois 38. Fantastic field position to start the drive. They get to the 26 and then they spit the bit and have to settle for a field goal. Illinois starts driving down the field on their next possession and look like they are gonna go in, and they come up short at the Michigan 31 instead of kicking the field goal because they went for it. Michigan got the ball back and started marching down the field, they look like they are gonna go in, they get down to the 23, convert a gutsy 4th down, and then they get down to the 13 and choke in the red zone for like the 500th time this season. They settle for a field goal again. Illinois gets the ball back again and they do absolutely nothing with it and have to punt. and if you thought the universe didn’t want Michigan to win badly enough, Illinois punter had one of his worst punts all season of a measly 30 yards. So Michigan starts off basically on Illinois side of the field. they look like they are gonna spit the bit again and turn it over on downs and the refs gift them a catch that probably shouldn’t have been a catch on 4th down, then Illinois conveniently shoots themselves in the foot again and commits a timely pass interference penalty sealing the game for Michigan to kick the game winning field goal as time expired. This was by far in part one of the worst games of football I have ever seen Michigan play this season.

I’m a Michigan fan and I know we had a handful of key players out which was the reason for our bad performance, BUT let’s not leave out how bad the defense was today (db’s especially) and jj McCarthy played AWFUL, lots of overthrown balls and missed open receivers like do you know who they play next week??? We have to get better or we don’t have a chance. Plus I pray to god corum & edwards are healthy next week
@jadongrifhorst62212 жыл бұрын
the defense wasn't that bad, especially on 4th down. JJ missed throws but also the receivers had a couple huge dropped potential TDs, so it wasn't all his fault

We had key players out and Blake got hurt, but no excuses. That was FAR too close and the defense got its first taste of a great running back this year. Glad we won, but if we lay an egg like this next week it will be a big fat loss to OSU. Surely we will drop out of Top 4 this week because we all know the committee hates Michigan and all other teams that are not in the SEC. Hopefully IF we win next week we jump back in.

Well said! Illinois is 7-4 and could have easily won all 4 games lost. Illinois doesn't have the depth of talent as Michigan;. Though well coached; they are still finding their identity as a team and as a program. However, hopefully the day of being irrelevant are over as ther are with the basketball program.
