CTWD is actually Contact-Tip (or Tube)to-Work Distance, and Nozzle-To-Work-Distance is abbreviated as NTWD.

I'm from the show me state. when you say 90. You mean straight-up-and-down? Then a 35° angle? Thanks. You must be a good teacher straight to the point

Appreciate your time with some tips. I’m a sign maker and I’m learning to weld up our sign base that bolts to concrete. I use a 1/4 inch metal plate 10x12 with a 2x2 Metal tube 10 inches tall. Set it in the middle of the plate and weld all 4 sides. Lucky I have access to a Miller machine along with some other high quality equipment. I wanted to learn how to weld these up so I’m not dependent on someone else. A few times as I started to weld I felt stuck and had to jerk it to get going. That from starting out to close? But when I backed off and started I had some wire jumping around. So the 1/2 off the material then the wire also needs to be 1/2 out of the nozzle? Then I was at the 90 and circulating up on the tub and back down to the plate.

We showed our instructors your comment and they recommended you make sure that you have a good ground and to double check your machine settings. Not having a good ground can prevent your machine from being consistent and that might be why you're seeing stoppage. As for your machine settings make sure it's correlating to your metal type and thickness. If you're too low or too high you will see that faulting.

you actually get more pen when dragging mig. the reason were taught to push is for more gas coverage and the weld covers more surface area. its been tested and proven dragging creates a deeper, more pen weld

Totally agree with everything. Just remember that the gas push rule is not applied 100% across the board. For example, I mig weld sheet metal for my work, so pushing really isn't as viable as pulling because pushing would cause you to burn through much more easily. He's definitely not wrong, it's just a rule that shouldn't be applied to every kind of metal.

Not all know what they are talking about. That where bad students come from. Like his CTWD, is what I learn is call Arc length. I pull mig and flux and gas.

@@JD-526arc length is end electrode to work, ctwd is end of contact tip to work....

Dragging with gas works just as well on most positions, but you really want to push on vertical welds
@levihassinger59944 ай бұрын
I never knew that dragging it had less penetration, good to know

What a lot of people don’t realize it’s what your working with “material” and the settings you use you can drag or pull and get pretty much same results just have to tweak and find what you do I know bunch of old guys that do stick would rather drag because of tight spaces

Do u push still if ur doing overhead? Idk how i’d be able to do that

Next video you do, put this on your cheat sheet card. 90-35=55 degrees. Doing street math while the camera is running can be tough.

Thanks for the tips. But how come my instructor wont let me use push method because “it messes up the nozzle”
@TheFabSchoolRiverside Жыл бұрын
The only time pushing would damage the nozzle is if you are welding vertically up. This is because your sparks will fall back onto your nozzle which will cause malfunctioning. When you're MIG welding horizontally you should have no issues damaging equipment.
