Great topic! My gear has definitely changed as my needs have changed. But it's still about balancing the musical capability of the instrument with the physical/dimensional characteristics of a guitar that makes it easier for me to play.

I think a guitar’s “vibe” can also add a factor. A neon purple Kramer with 24 frets and a floyd rose will probably encourage a certain kind of playing from me vs an ES175

I've only had 2 electrics so far.. 1st one being a strat style that I've been playing for about 15ish years.. 2nd one I just got a few month ago, a les paul style.. so still slowly growing with it.. and I'm already dreaming about having more guitars..

How was the transition from the s style to the lp style?

@@ElliottKleinguitar There was an initial shock.. its not a transition.. I'm still playing the strat style.. more of an addition.. But a lot of things felt different and unusual at the beginning..

nice vid. good to see other people have the same issue :) Im in this situation right now. I have a Les Paul, EVH, N2, and a Solar....humbuckers :) But I've been playing/writing a heap of clean stuff and am really drawn to get a Strat type of guitar,, never had one. have tested the Silver Sky, but i didn't "feel it", then tried a suhr antique HSS, which is pretty cool, and then an Iconic Solana VM guitar from a place in Cali...damn, that thing is super nice!!! i put a deposit on it, but I'm still trying to decide, lol. Thanks for the helpful vid. Any thoughts on my next purchase would be helpful haha.

Haha the Iconics are so cool! Their tele and strats are amazing. Maybe the Nick Johnston Shecter strat? Or the Charvel Guthrie model? I havent played an Iconic yet but they certainly seem to nail the ratio of retro-enough to modern-enough. Also worth checking out Tom Anderson if you want very modern

I love the Iconics, the only thing that makes me nervous they are pretty new, and hard to find many reviews out there about them, and they arent that cheap :) all the best, Jeff

@@underfeed oh if you're in the UK it's worth checking out Patrick James Eggle, or PJD guitars. Or Haar guitars from over here in The Netherlands

@@ElliottKleinguitar nice one! yeah i tried Patrick James Eggle at the store when trying the Iconic...the Iconic still won for me! Whats your thoughts about the Ibanez Prestige AZ models? a bit more main stream and i guess hotter pickups

@@underfeed they play nicely, but I've just generally never been a big fan of their pickups. The Fiore (PRS) plays very nicely and has cool features in the electronics. The Suhr teles over at Peach will probably play similarly to an Iconic I'd think?
