How well do you think it would last in a winter summit? It would likely involve some snowshoeing for the approach and then crampon/climb up to the ridge/summit.

I personally wouldn't use them as a dedicated winter boot. In a pinch and if I truly had to go light and fast then I might. But if there is any potential for weather colder than about 20-30 degrees Fahrenheit there is no way I would want to make this my summit boot.

Hi which crampons did you use. Ive found the front pegs are too long on my crampon rubbing on the rand. any advice appreciated...

I used the Petzl Vasak crampons and they seemed to work really well. Hope this helps!

How would you say the width of the toe box is on this boot? I'm 11.5 in most athletic shoes & wear a 45 in the LS Nepal Evo, but the toe box is narrow for my EE wide foot. They're fine for ice climbing, but on long mountaineering treks, they hurt my feet and there's not enough room for a thicker mountaineering sock. With stores closed due to Covid I can't go in and try these on. 45's in Scarpas fit good and are wide enough in the toe box for my feet. What would you recommend on sizing in the Crows? Maybe go up to a 45.5 (size 12)?

These fit very similar to La Sportiva's. Even if you go up in size I would be hard pressed to think that you'll find the Salewa Crow's to be a good option for wide feet. Scarpa has always been the go-to for wider feet but I am not sure which boot to go with for alpine or mountaineering treks with them. Sorry I am not too much help!

Do they take a while to break in? Got a nasty blister after my first (7 mile) mountain hike in them.

I have found that they are pretty finicky breaking in. Mine are good now after quite a bit of use but they still leave me a touch sore. No blisters, however.

Karol, I would not use them for daily city use. They are great boots but do not have enough flexibilty or insulation to be a comfortable daily boot in the city.

I have found this boot to be incredibly stiff, especially in the sole, to the point where it began causing pain in my feet. I do not intend to use crampons or engage in ice climbing, so I may be using the wrong boot. My first hike with these boots was up the Potts Mountain Jeep Trail (a steep, rocky trail) in southwest V.A. It is a 4.2 mile ascent covering ~1500 feet. I had roughly 50 lbs of gear in an osprey pack.

It's a B2 boot which is designed with a much stiffer sole for use with crampons while climbing. A B1 boot is more insulated than your average boot for winter walking and takes a flexible C1 type crampon. It will jave much more flex than the Crow. If you like salewa check out the mountain trainer mid gtx.
