This is what a review should be like, short, sharp and to the point. Not padded out with endless waffle. Excellent. Thank you.

Finally someone who does the testing right: precise definition of the amount of water used, same starting temperature for both stoves, one brand new canister for each stove. I know that differences might be minor, but if boiling times are so important to some of us, at least they should be measured with fixed criteria 😉

I got an Amicus without ignitor. The money saved bought an adapter valve to use it on the larger green lantern bottles AND another valve to fill the green bottles from white BBQ tanks.

great concise video. well done. I have the amicus for a couple years and love it. it is loud. I particularly like the 4 prong pot support and often opt for the amicus over my MSR pocket rocket 2 deluxe. Based in large part on your review, my next stove will be the Windmaster with a 4 prong support, just wish the bag was as nice as the amicus. Thanks for the great vid.

I like the details of weight of fuel used, fuel save =long trips in between fuel bottles

Thanks! Please keep in mind that I did burn these with the valve fully open and with no lid on the pots. I can get much better fuel efficiency when I am using a more reasonable flame.

How would you say the Windmaster compares to the Amicus in terms of actual cooking (frying an egg, pancakes, sautéing vegetables, etc.)? I do long distance bike tours with my wife, and am looking for a compact top-of-cannister style stove for actual cooking, not just boiling water.
@ArmchairOutdoors
@ArmchairOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
I would go with the Windmaster for a couple of reasons. Bike touring is not as subjective to a few extra grams of weight and the difference in space between the two is quite negligible. The Windmaster will put the pot closer to the burner head and make for better control of the temp in your pot/pan if there's any breeze. I would also use the 4 prong support to give you more stability for bigger pans. And finally I would pick up a stove stand that clips the the base of the fuel canister such as MSR's three prong folding stand.

@@ArmchairOutdoors Thanks for the advice! I like the Windmaster's wider, more stable pot support and the wider burner head, but wasn't sure if having the its burner closer to the pan would cause a worse hotspot in the center of the fry pan, or if there was any difference in how low the stoves can get at their lowest setting.
@ArmchairOutdoors
@ArmchairOutdoors 3 жыл бұрын
@@isaacmoyer5266 You bet! There is a little bit more risk of getting a hot spot at the center with the Windmaster but not too much as the flame really does spread out nicely. I have found that the pan material is important in this regard though. For my thin single layer stainless cookware, I tend to get hot spots in the center. With a little bit thicker cookware this helps mitigate the problem. To be fully honest, I would rather risk a little bit of a hotspot than to see my meal end up in the dirt because of a pot stand that was undersized! :) And as for how low they can regulate themselves they are both good. But again I would give the edge to the Windmaster.

I searched YT for Soto Amicus and the 2nd result was 17 friggin minutes long. Ain't nobody got time for that! Looks a lot better than my junky BRS-3000T. Seriously, it has 2 settings. Off and full on blast. I got a feeling of dread every time it was lit and beat it with a sledge hammer so it can't possibly blow up on anybody ever. Thanks for the review I'm about to order a Soto, it looks they bundle it with a pot for a better deal nowadays. Cheers!

I own the BRS and the Soto Windmaster and I like them both. The quality of the Soto is much better and so is the flame control but the BRS is just so light.
