Awesome, thanks... Do you have a video that talks of the RIGHT hook types to use for different types of plastic lures when Texas rigging?? EWG? Straight shank hooks?, offset round bend hooks?, Kahle hooks?, Hook size?, etc... I get so confused sometimes for which hook type is the best to use for worms, creature baits, tubes, etc... A video that goes in depth about this would be amazingly helpful....😌👌

I have started using a 2/0 hook as my main hook size. Once the soft plastic begins to get torn at the tip, I just cut off an inch of it and rig it on again. The 2/0 size has no issues hooking big bass and gets me twice the usage out of my plastic craws. Great tip on using the bobber stop.

Thanks Matt. Been Texas rigging since the 70's. What's this pretty boy going to teach me about Texas rigging. You got me with the bobber stop. I prefer a toothpick but it was neet anyway. When do you use more weight for a faster fall. 75% of the time I use 3/16oz is there a season/sunny/cloudy/windy or raining to increase weight, most ot the time I'm pitching in under 5' of water. I do increase weight for grass or cover. Just trying to maximize bites.
@MattStefanFishing

i generally only increase weight as cover thickens or the deeper i fish

My rule of thumb for changing out a plastic bait on a Texas rig is when you can't rig it so it'll run straight and true. If it's a worm, then it goes into the wacky rig bag.

I'm pretty sure skeet made it so when the bait would collapse when setting the hook the shaft of the hook goes in the gap. One issue with a straight shank hook when using a thick bait like a creature is not enough gap to get it on the lip of the bass. You can also tell if you rigged the bait right if the brighter color is on bottom and the darker on top. How he's showing it here is backwards since the orange is brighter. Look at anything in nature or in the water dark is always on top and light is on bottom.
@adwhite804
@adwhite804 Жыл бұрын
@@dreddy5187 I agree with your assessment. Any...ANY! animal,fish,lizard,snake....any creature. The belly is always lighter, why? LIGHT! The belly doesn't get the light the top part of the body does. Color protects , disguises/ camouflages whatever creature. Belly of any beast is always light. Looks at your dog,cat whatever. Nature proves the belly is always lighter.

A 3/0 EWG can work for 90% of your Texas rigged craws/creatures also worms if you don't mind the hook hanging below. I prefer a 3/0 offset worm hook for worms.I can live with just those 2 hooks for all my Texas rigging.

Like tip #1! Hide he knot in the bait. How many times did I not like taking off grass, scum, etc. until now. I also agree with line break offs. Thank you, Matt, for showing me something new that I can put to good use. On the tip with the bobber stopper, another solution is Rapid Solutions has a tool that you can use a plastic disc and holds up very well. Stay Safe & God Bless!!!!

Great tips the one thing you touched on in the beginning is pegging or not I feel in recent years pegged Texas rigs have become a religion lol. I for years and years never pegged my weight and I feel I have caused many more fish without it. I do understand the advantages especially around wood or punching but aside from that I never peg my weight I believe the presentation is better. I don't know if you have made a video on this but it's a great topic

After threading your bait on a hook, put a drop of UV resin on the underside of the bait. Then hit it with a black light. It makes a nice keeper.

Another great video, u just keep knocking them out. BUT, this one is not gonna make me change. I really think you and everyone should try screw locks for their soft plastics. The bait never slides down the hook! Yes, your point about the knot getting banged by the weight is the downfall, but not that bad of an issue I think. Plus if u make your own they are dirt cheap.

🍺Thanks Matt. Do you plan on making a video sharing your thoughts/plans on the new MLF invitational format that is apparently replacing the Tacklewarehouse pro circuit. 6 events, win your in Redcrest along with the AOY. The top 8 qualify for the bass pro tour. $5000 entry fee (150 boats), no co-Angler, and I 🤔 think you get the opportunity to compete before the invites go elsewhere.

6 events…..150 boats fish the first 2 days.Top 50 advance to the championship round. The 50 that advance get checks. Top 8 at the end of the year advance to the pro tour. $660,000 prize money. Winner of each event gets up to $115,000 and automatic entry into redcrest. Redcrest winner gets $300,000.

how do you prevent pike from biteing off your lures?
@bassman6211
@bassman6211 Жыл бұрын
Stop fishing where there's pike or use a steel leader. Those are the only surefire ways to keep from getting bit off by slime rockets. My advice, don't get emotionally attached to baits. The less you spend on a bait the easier it is to say goodbye to them. Lol ( hope that made sense)
