Tips for using RIT dye & mistakes to avoid👇🏻
1. I used Rit All-Purpose Dye. This is good for cotton, wool, nylon, linen, & more.
2.Pre-wash your fabric, I soaked the plant hanger in the tub with a little Dawn dish soap.
3. Mistake number one. Use HOT water. At first, I just used tap water. I had to dye it again because the color wasn’t vibrant enough.
4. Mistake number two. Stir constantly: When dyeing your fabric, stir constantly to ensure an even distribution of the dye. I didn’t stir much the first time.
5. Mistake number three: add one cup of salt (or vinegar, depending on the fabric) I also didn’t do this the first time around. I didn’t have any on hand.
6. Rinse thoroughly: After the fabric has been dyed, rinse it thoroughly with cool water until the water runs clear.
7. Wear gloves: RIT dye can stain your skin and clothes.
8. Soak in Rit ColorStay Dye fixative immediately after dying.
9. Experiment with colors: Don’t be afraid to mix different colors to create unique shades. Start with small batches to test the color and adjust as needed.
10. Im not sure if it was the temperature of the water, the salt, or the stirring, but the fabric came out 10X darker the second time & I’m super happy with it.

I dont mean to sound rude but RIT is a stain that wont last long. It fades vary quickly! I suggest looking into procion dyes that would be perfect for 💯 cotton macramé. It wont fade

If it's cotton, you use salt. I recommend checking out the official RIT dye's instructions. The^ are pretty good.

The answer depends on how dark you want the color to be. More fabric means you need more water (larger dye bath) for the fabric to move around in, and more water means the dye will be more diluted (unless you add more dye). If you want a deep, dark color, I would honestly use a whole bottle for 1 large/XL+ hoodie, or maybe 2 small hoodies (larger sizes will need more dye). If you’re fine with a lighter color, you could maybe do 3 with one bottle in a bigger dye bath, but again, the size of the hoodies makes a big difference. Also check what they’re made of (cotton or a poly blend) bc that will determine what kind of dye you need. Hope that helps!
