Good advices! My number 4 would be: Learn everything you can about color management, Rec709, CST and so on. At the beginning, I did not do any of that and went completely "freestyle" with my grading. Same with my node tree. Try to find a "fixed node tree" that works best for you. Name your Nodes so if you have to work on an older project, you still know what you did in all the nodes. :)

Excellent advice, thank you very much! I constantly have to remind myself to not splash on equipment unless I really need it.

Thanks. Needed that to remind myself to not invest to much money in gear. I invested in books to not look at a screen/monitor to much :).

Thanks Gavin, super good advice. One interesting thing in relation on spending too much money is, equipment cost goes up really quickly. E.g. Mini Panel to Advanced 28k difference, a non HDR Flanders to a BVM HDR Sony 25k difference. There is no mid tier!
@Gavin_Haughey_Colorist Жыл бұрын
Highend equipment gets extremely expensive extremely fast. They only produce low numbers of certain products and they kinda have to charge crazy prices for that. There aren’t that many suites out there with a Sony X300, an advanced panel etc. And, of course, Sony and Dolby can charge much more due to their name. Im glad that there is no mid tier as the lower end stuff is so good today, you almost dont need it.

"I have a question regarding delivering graded files to a client. After completing the color grading on a short film, what would be the best method to provide them with all the files? Should i send them the davinci files ? I’d like to ensure everything is organized and delivered in a professional manner. Thank you for your guidance!
@Gavin_Haughey_ColoristАй бұрын
I would never provide the Davinci project if not asked specifically for it and for a good reason. I always check with the client beforehand what deliverables they need when the grade is finished. It is usually something like „prores444/dnxhr444 in 4K and 25fps“. So one file they get.

What do you recommend to have for settings instead of black magic panel? To have something temporarily until you can buy it
