I have been working on preparedness for about a year now. I feel a whole lot better and much less vulnerable than before. Thanks to you, and others here on KZbin, for providing the framework and myriad suggestions. Living very close to a major city gave me a false sense of security. Covid opened my eyes. You put me on the path. My current project is making emergency car bags. Being older and retired, we don’t have to venture out in bad weather, or because we are essential employees. But you never know when something might happen and you need a change of socks. Or a bandage. Or worse.

Last week, for myself, I purchased more first aid supplies to increase my stash for myself and for others who don't prepare. For the younger woman I help support (she lives in poverty), I purchased quite a bit of first aid supplies and medications and am sending her a care package tomorrow containing extras from my supplies as I replenish my stock.

I appreciate your clear suggestions! I was intrigued by the white appliance behind you. Is it a wood stove? Is it a wringer washer? Is it modern or an antique? Jumping off topic, do you normally cook with natural gas, electric, or propane? Which do you favor in a grid down situation? Thank you for caring enough about others (us) to guide us, though we be at many different levels of preparedness.

Great suggestions! And one thing at a time, one day at a time. So grateful for that message. Our son is now with us so another fire blanket is in order plus more carbon monoxide detectors. I like your security doors very much. Plus the film on the outside sounds interesting. Thank you! 🥰🇺🇸

I have security cameras. I think they’re a deterrent because they are visible. They’re up under the roof, so someone would need to work to disable them. We just had Hurricane Milton come through (I’m in the Tampa Bay area) and, sadly, we recently had some teens come over the fence around our neighborhood and they were trying to steal from the empty houses (not everyone had returned from evacuating yet). Fortunately neighbors saw them and confronted them (in a friendly “can I help you” sort of manner, not confrontational) and thank the Lord that was enough to deter the intruders. The neighbors followed them through the neighborhood until they went back over the fence to where they came from. I keep Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson close by, and even closer when a hurricane comes. I pray to God that I never need it and, if someone comes in my house while I’m in it, I hope it’s a deterrent so that I never have to actually use it. Note that just having such a thing is not sufficient. I’ve taken many, many training and safety classes and I go practice with it. All in the hopes that I never ever have to use it, but if I do, I know how. Having those teens up to no good just three doors away was a wake up that even in our sleepy senior community, someone may come around looking for opportunity to cause harm. *sigh* I don’t have a safe room, I’m in a very small house, I’m older, and I’m not physically able to go out a window, so being prepared with self defense is the only option. Whatever it is that you have, please be sure you’re trained and you practice so that if you were to need it, you can do it safely. And in the meantime keep praying you will never need it.

Just received three of the fire blankets, one for each floor of our tri-level house. Just have to get the safe room finished and the windows coated. Thank you for taking the time to explain why to have these items.

Ok this is great because it just reminded me that i need to fix one of the locks on my sliding back door. I have 3 locks on it but only 2 work. We dont have to worry about some of the natural disasters you have, here in the UK. I have looked into the security film before and i like the idea. Right now im waiting for my landlords to upgrade my windows( government landlords) it supposed to be happening but i don't know when. So going to wait on the film. Other than that my preps are in a good place security wise.

You can put a wooden dowel or a pipe that fits in the track. We also screwed some screws in the upper track where the door slides. Now no one can lift the door up and through because the screws stop the door from being lifted. There is a KZbin video on it.

@@peggyharris7419 I have a proper security bar for the sliding door if I leave the house. I'm not using wood to secure a metal sliding patio door thanks. The new top lock is ordered now anyway I will have it here and fitted before the weekend.

some smartphones have a security function that alerts a loved one if you are in a dangerous situation, there are also code words that you can use to inform the emergency center operator what the situation is

I have the EMP shield installed on my home and also have large faraday bags. Would my Evoflow Delta 2 Max & extra battery be safer plugged in with the EMP Shield or in a faraday bag in your opinion??

A fence is a deterrent.

But don’t expect TOO much security from a fence. We live in the country on acreage and are fenced & gated around the perimeter (mostly because of our large animals). I’d long felt safe and often left the garage vehicle-door open a couple of feet for ventilation. I was home alone one day and I opened the house door to go into the garage. There was a person about to come into the house. I’ve never been so surprised before in my life! Fortunately, the person hurried for the partly-open door as I turned to grab shoes. The person ran toward a corner of the property that had no gate, so they clearly had climbed the 5 foot tall fence to get in. We later realized that someone had previously stolen quite valuable items from our outbuildings and our home. I say “previously“ because we became very careful about locking everything up after that & we’d never had a break-in. Annoying to think you’re safe and learn that you’re not!! Fortunately for me, the person seemed only to want stuff, and not to hurt anybody.

🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Hi, John ! I have a question and since you're an engineer, I trust your advice. IS IT NECESSARY TO STORE AN ECOFLOW IN A FARADAY CAGE ? I appreciate your work. Thanks. Cynthia
@TheProvidentPrepper
@TheProvidentPrepper Ай бұрын
Yes. If you want it to work after an EMP you should store it in a Faraday cage.

My question is about laundry, in the book, it says start with the dirtiest clothes but wouldn't you start with the cleanest? Because the dirtiest would make the water in the tubs filthy.

Idea to cover. The issue of honest weights and measures, gold, silver, copper prices of goods, versus dishonest weights and measures, debt notes, credits, crypto, pixels, digits, inflation, half truths, the 2D fake world versus the 3D honest world. What is honest and real, what is dishonest and fake?
