Analog ended on June 12, 2009 - on my 50th birthday. Another piece of my childhood gone by the wayside. I will miss it (I am not a fan of digital broadcasting). Doug, I remember this RCA Victor model from 1967 and I always thought the slide rule UHF dial was cool. I gre up in NJ in the 1960s and 70s and I was able to tune in several UHF channels from Philadelphia.

WMME-LP will have analog life line programming which will include programming from WCIU, WMAQ and WGN. There may be some other lower power analog channels though I'm finding many are converting to digital in big cities like Chicago. Very nice video. You have an amazing collection!

I'm sure when that 14" colored TV was released in 1967, it cost more than today's 40" HDTV in today's money.

it is kinda sad that analog is gone, but seriously I feel TV stopped being good way way way before June 2009 with the advent of 24/7 news broadcasting, and the need for all of those networks to sell adds, moved us away from real news, into the era of fear mongering. Even so, I enjoyed this trip down an important part of America's history. Thanks for the journey brother. Peace :):)

Yeah, I sort of agree a bit, it's sad where tv has gone these days, especially true with the news. Which is why people like myself don't watch mainly the latter. Fear mongering, lying, deceivement, I think I'd rather watch sesame street then the news these days.

I counted 16 broadcast channels Chicago used to have on NTSC? that's pretty good! Where I live we only had 4 or 5 by the time of the shutdown. Unfortunately we never had METV in the analog days. I miss analog. I wish they could've just reallocated the UHF band and left VHF alone. It's pretty useless for most stuff now because of noise, reflection, and moreover not high enough a frequency to meet the nyquist limit for any appreciable data transfer speed

I know this is an old video but I have one of those and I made a mistake and shorted the wire from the signal generator to the chassis blue the string fuse for the tubes and now I also have no high voltage I fear I may have blown the flyback everything works but high voltage the rectifier tube is fine I was wondering if you had any ideas as to what I did wrong when I caused that short.

What is the "something" line on the screen you mentioned during the video? Seems you associated it with te Horz output tube? I know you know because I saw youo fix that 14" Zenith. Great job, keep them coming! Your great with that camera too!

Looks like American analog TV still has a good picture? In the UK our analog (PAL) broadcasts have all been sourced from MPEG2 digital for the last 10 years. Most 16:9 programming is also run through an aspect ratio converter which deinterlaces, crops+rescales, then reinterlaces the video into a 14:9 letterboxed format for analog transmission. It ends up looking worse than VHS...

NTSC was rubbish-when we got colur TV(Pal) in the '70s I remember that all the U.S programmes looked bad with everyone having green or yellow faces-such as M.A.S.H or All in The Family

Well that's an issue with NTSC to PAL conversion, it didn't look like that here.
