Loy Krongthong is a Thai holiday that is intended to show respect for the dead. It is a beautiful holiday and very respectful. The floats are built up t five foot across with beautiful flowers and candles and then set afloat on the water to drift away. There are smaller ones made like air balloons and are set to float in the air. It is a beautiful ceremony and everyone who has the chance to see it will enjoy it very much.

hi mate last story was a blinder , similar to my own experiences i met my own thai mrs here in the UK , her old man was treating her badly so she divorced him and moved in with me , she was a really good mother to my 3 year old son , i was a single dad at the time , some years later all went south when her own mother unfortunately passed away , she changed completely beyond recognition and began treating me very badly , after a few years of trying against all odds to hold the fractured pieces of shattered marriage together i gave up and divorced her we were finally parted in 2012 after meeting in 2000
@ThailandBound3 жыл бұрын
You didn't say if she was Thai or not but if she was I'm sure you know that Thai people look at their mother as if they are a god and they are the most important member of any Thai family.

@@ThailandBound hi peter thanks for writing back , yes my mrs was thai from songklha in the south from a place close to samila beach , she had the most appalling up bringing at the hands of both her alcoholic /violent parents who rejected her from birth, basically passing her around the family to be parented/ raised by many different people in the family, i got with her in the UK , because my own upbringing was some what similar , and to an extent we understood each other, and the marriage worked well for a few years , then as i said her mum (thai) died, i was with her when the phone call came, and the news hit like a knife through the heart , she fell to the floor dropped the phone, and was inconsolable with grief for a fortnight at least , she was never the same again , i never really understood what she felt although i tried to , it wasnt until my own parents passed that i fully understood , my father who was the architect of so many of my current problems died, and his passing nearly slaughtered me ,its taken me 8 years to be able to talk about it , now i understand a lot better , although it doesnt make her treatment of me 'right' , i can now understand where it came from , take it easy peter , ill tune in later in the week mate all the best

I know about the cultural foot thing in Thailand and try to respect it, but have never seen the Thai people take offense with foreigners. I imagine they just assume foreigners are ignorant of it being a cultural thing. In past years i have become more aware of Thai's showing their disgust of foreigners in general even tho i always try to be polite to all Thai's i come in contact with.i can understand this because i see many foreigners coming to Thailand and acting like they think they are better than Thai people. Foreigners need to come and act respectable to Thai people. if we expect to be respected then we also need to show respect. I especially like the water festival at New Year ever year and i like the festival where they place the floats with candles in the river showing respect for the dead each year. I married a Thai. When a Thai friend introduced us (her being a friend of the Thai family i was friends wit, it was actually love at first sight and i found her to be my true love in my life.

Hi Peter, you are awesome, you have a very open and relaxed way to tell about your experiences, and people's stories. Sometimes I can feel that other in some way wants you to get a feeling that they know the secret of Thailand which they not will revea, here you are very spontaneous and open during your reading. To be honest I didn't liked the video background, in some way it's harder to focus at your stories, so for me I prefer the waterfall and your decent face infront of the Patong. The head of TAT has in fact stated that, I watched a video on this the other day. Thailand govt has really always wanted rid of the red light bars, Chinese and backpacker tourists for years. The thinking is less people, but with more money to spend. Making Thailand strictly for the wealthy and family friendly would take years. An image makeover takes a long time. At the end of the day, and with this pandemic, they will have to always go back to what brought them to the dance. I think these shutdowns BTW, in part is to kill these bars off.

Nice video Peter - always learn something from the stories - but ... "in the West we tend to use the feet much more, use as another pair of hands"? well i'm from the West and indeed some people treat their feet differently - like putting their feet on the passenger arm-rest in front on a plane ride, kicking their feet up on the dash of a passenger car or truck, or kicking their feet up on their desk in front of a guest - this might apply to some people but IMO not the majority - what do you think Peter.

It always puts a big smile on my face when some “Self entitled nobody” sends comments like yours! You have written your comments as if you are sending a complaint to a paid, subscription service such as Netflix or Google and you are not satisfied with the service you are receiving. Unless someone is standing next to you with a gun against your head you don’t have to watch videos on my channel! Instead of complaining why don’t you simply click away and watch something else? The last time I looked, I was not being paid for what I do by you or anyone else. I am an amateur presenter, who makes videos for fun, “If people enjoy watching my videos all well and good, if they don’t they can simply move on” without having the urge to leave stupid, negative comments on a channel they are watching for free or by simply criticizing me. Who are you to tell me “you are no narrator?” You could always go off and make your own KZbin channel and show us all how it should be done, mind you saying that...looking at your zero subscribers on your channel, something tells me that you would be as popular as a "Fart in a spacesuit" or even a "Burning orphanage!"
