I picked up my first flute, a Jonah Thompson, at a Navajo souvenir shop in New Mexico. I’m a truck driver and was looking for a better way to spend my down time. One of the best purchases I ever made. Thanks for all you do.

Love the Jonah Thompson flute, it was my first flute that I got for my collection. I ordered it with a eagle block. Definitely one I'd recommended for someone starting.

I just got my First Hawk from High Spirits at a Cherokee flute shop in the beautiful blue ridge smokies. I started this journey by 3D printing my first native flute. Although it had some great deep sound, nothing compares to wood, so I had to get it as my starter flute. That spanish cedar is gorgeous!

The Jonah Thompson turtle flute was my first flute and I still got it. I don’t play it anymore though because of how airy it is.

Airy can be really fun sometimes. I’m guessing it is also fairly loud?
@joeywhittle44 Жыл бұрын
@@micahflips1928 Not this one. I tried to “fix it” before I knew much about flute making and made it worse. Some day I’ll circle back to it and make it sound good again.

Thanks Jonny. I have two of the three in my collection and LOVE my little ABS Northern Sprits flute. best described simply as a "fun" flute. I take it on my sailboat and even often play it at home just because it has that happy sound. The third one you showed..... not so much. perhaps I just got a fluke bad one, but I was very disappointed in that one. it had huge chips in the wood around the sound hole that kept the bird from sealing properly. I repaired that part myself, but was still disappointed in the overall sound quality. these days I make all of my own flutes, but I still enjoy seeing what's out there, and certainly enjoy your playing. great job!

I don't know how many people realized it, when you said "...bamboo or wood..." that bamboo is not in fact wood, but grass. BTW - I've the Butch Hall in "A", and a beautiful custom-made "Two Feathers" (Darrell Allen) bamboo flute in F#. Did I miss a "Two Feathers" review??
@JonnyLipford2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Thank you for that distinction between wood and bamboo! Although I did not bring that up, I do think most people realize that bamboo is distinctively different indeed. I don’t believe I have a Two Feathers flute in my collection at this time. So many flutes, I will double check that!

I've been wading through your videos trying to find the review for the flute that had a flat top around the holes. Can't remember the name of it, but you said a lot of beginners like them because the holes are easier to find.
@JonnyLipford2 жыл бұрын
That may have been the Ancient Territories flute, as it has a bit of a triangular shape, which creates a flattened top for the finger holes.

Where can I find a wall flute stand like the one in your video?
@JonnyLipford4 ай бұрын
We are in the final stages of preproduction and will have them available on our website (www.horizonsflutestore.com) very soon. They will be a modular design that will either stand or hang. And more sections can be added, making them as tall as you want them to be. Give us a couple more weeks and we should have them online.

I got F# as my first flute. It is slightly lower sounding than the other flutes and still not challenging for me to reach all the notes.
@ashleygilliam12142 жыл бұрын
Oh? So far the F# is my favorite sounding flute but I'm scared the pull the trigger on it because it would be my first flute and I have no idea if my hands would fit it or if I would have challenges learning it. Which one did you get if you don't mind me asking.
@K775-v5r2 жыл бұрын
@@ashleygilliam1214 I personally don’t find the F# challenging for me to reach the notes at all. I don’t know about others because everyone has different size hands, but my hands are probably a little on the smaller side and I don’t have any trouble. It’s still a higher pitched flute but still lower out of the other beginner flutes I’ve come across. I got mine from Stellar Flutes. They are amazing! You can order it from their website… they are also very well priced.

I see 2 different Northern Spirit flutes on Rich Dubé's website that look like the one you talk about and play in this video. Can you please tell me which one it is? 1) Original Mid A Northern Spirit Flute Contemporary Minor Pentatonic 2) Indigenous Style A Diatonic Northern Spirit Flute

First one, Jerry. I don’t generally recommend a diatonic tuned flute for beginners. The more common minor pentatonic scale is a better place to start. Thanks for asking!

As a dog owner, I can't respond to the cat thing. We recommend A flutes because the finger hole size and spacing is easier for beginners.
