I ended up going to the doctor and they said I got pretty lucky and just needed to take it easy for a couple of weeks. I then proceeded to get a cold. All is currently well! Will be planning a big Fall trip next year to make up for this one! And hopefully be riding in a the S.S. Good Times 2.0.

Hi Matt, I just finished watching this heart wrenching video. I just got to the part 2:20 where you said you felt bad for us because we're not getting the full trip you'd planned. It was lovely of you to say that. It was incredibly kind & generous of you to be thinking about your viewer family when you were in such pain, that was a lovely thing to say, but for sure, every single one of us will have been saying, "Get the Ibuprofen & get home to rest, don't worry about the video". It's terrible to see you in pain. Thank you for continuing to chat to us & film when you were in such pain, that must have taken some doing. Then what do you end up doing a week after this....... sitting getting uncomfortable & sore ( I was going to say "getting Stiff" but for some reason that sounds wrong 🤔😉😀) whilst spending hours & hours & hours editing & producing your masterpiece of the 5 year Anniversary video. As a human who experiences back pain every single day I can appreciate your wanting to get back to homebase for some R&R. Mother Nature had it in for you on this trip, hopefully she will give you the weather you want the rest of the Fall and Winter seasons. Monty is happy no matter what happens as long as he is with his Matthew, well maybe not the getting dunked that one time. Glad that you're better Matthew. You should carry a Garmin InReach Mini 2 so that Funk can track you during your trip, but more importantly, so you can push the SOS button and get rescued if you require evacuation. It could save your life. I use it when I'm fishing on my boat in the Pacific Ocean.

The older you are, the harder you fall! I hope you are ok Matt. I tripped on a blackberry vine one day and fell downhill head first out in the woods alone. The vines had a hold around my ankles and I couldn't move my feet. The hill was steep. I had to pull my body up the hill with little trees and salmonberry bushes enough to reach the vines around my ankles to cut them with a pocket knife. Then I had to wiggle my feet to the downhill side so I could climb out. It seems like such a simple thing that shouldn't be a big deal. I have been falling down since I was a little kid. I know how, and I know how to get up, but this was different, I was seriously stuck. At first I almost paniced. Then I remembered, panic is what gets people killed. I accepted the position I was in before I even tried to free myself. I took it slow and thoughtfully and the next thing I knew I was climbing back up to the road. I sat there for a few minutes, checked my arms, legs, head and body for broken parts, thanked my guardian angels and moved quietly on with my day. Keep in mind your age and relative safety. Kids bounce, us, not so much anymore.

Matthew, you are in my thoughts and prayers for a quick recovery. Falls are horrible. I fell in September while on vacation and was extremely sore and very bruised. I still have a sore right hip and bruising . I ended up going to ER. Thank God I didn’t break my hip or lower back. You definitely need to rest and take meds for the pain and swelling. I literally feel your pain. I then came down with Covid at the end of vacation. It was a combo healing time that was needed from the fall and Covid. Take care.🏕🍁🍂🐶💖🙏

Your trip may not have worked out as you hoped, and I'm sorry you didn't get to do all you were looking forward to, but you still turned out a great video and you did something really important which was to show us that there are times when you have to be sensible and know when to call it quits which can be the difference between life and death when out alone on these kinds of trips. Most of all I am glad you did not do yourself any serious harm. Wishing you a full recovery and many great trips to make up for this one!

My sister has a 240lbs English Mastiff. They were on their way to get him & saw a sign for a town called Roscoe. That became his name. I’ve had 5 Great Danes over the years & he has to be the biggest baby of them all. I swear his voice would be that of Eeyoure. He watches dear run across his yard & just stares at them. Maaaybe he will bark 1 time. 🤣🤣. Funny how we come up with doggie names. Sorry to hear you had a bummer trip. At least you had food to enjoy & a warm place to rest.

Wow! You are extremely blessed! The amount of luck you had with that fall is crazy. Count your blessings, bud! I got trucked over by two younger than me drunk dudes a few weeks ago at a football game I was attending. I had no pain after the fact, or the rest of that evening. The next day was a completely different story. My groin hurt, then my lower back, ribs, fingers on my right hand, neck, and shoulders. It took me about three days for all pain to go away. But, yeah, if you fall on rocks or concrete (as I was hurled onto) it hurts for a few days. The older you are, the longer the pain lasts. It sucks.

Matt, there is no doubt that you had a guardian angel protect you from serious injury, or worse, with that fall. I can’t help but wonder, what would have happened to Monty if, God forbid, something happened to you on this or any trip. Praise the Lord you basically came out of this trip pretty much unscathed. Your fall pretty much reminded me of a fall I had in 1999….except I broke 2 bones in my back and I had to be airlifted of the mountain. It took me about 2 months to heal. Anyways….I love your videos and I like it to the fact that you don’t swear which makes your videos enjoyable to watch and , you, being such a positive person with a good sense of humour is like having a breath of fresh air from all the negativity around here. I love…love your ‘pups’ . As much as I love Monty….I’m starting to miss Ruger too. If you plan to get a new canoe ….can you please get a longer one so Ruger can go with you as well. Literally a Littoral cliffhanger! I had to pause to comment- at 1:11:25, almost halfway through this video, or should I say docu-series that should be called “When Nature Says No but Matt Wants to Stay”. So far I give it 5🌟 for the boat chats, 5 Rolls of Duct tape for SS G.T., and 5 muscle relaxers for your pain! Sweet Jesus Matt!!! I catch late spring through summer monster pike by fishing for them like bass. Throw LARGE lures with a heavy metal leader to the shoreline structure, around points, dropoffs, and weeds. Fast stop n go retrieve to replicate injured baitfish. Large spinners, spoons, or even topwatter lures like walking the dog with a Zara Spook. The monster pike seem to lurk solo in the shallows around downed trees, under structure, and in the weeds. Fishing this same way can also land you the occastional monster walleye for your wall. I went through a fall similar to what happened to you and also came away remarkably okay except for a really sore shoulder for a month or so. It happened in front of other people, so my dignity got hurt more than anything else, but that kind of thing happening alone out there is way scarier! Hopefully you recover soon, take it easy, and even though this trip didn't pan out the way you wanted it to, thank you for putting together more awesome videos for us.

Matthew you said this trip was a big ole fat fail, and you were disappointed- which is understandable while in the moment. The way I see it- you were hit with a few life endings mishaps that am unseasoned outdoorsman couldn’t handle. YOU were able to get yourself & Monty back to the truck plus a long drive back home & got treatment on your own, injured & in pain. Although not ideal, you succeeded and will never ever forget the Fall’22 trip. Get well soon sir. Your loyal supporters will be rooting for you and waiting to see you again. Be well and take it easy on yourself!
