Oakland PD is severely understaffed, and so is Alameda County Sheriff's Office. Gun violence in Oakland isn't a new issue. The violence, thefts, and property crimes are getting worse. It saddens me to see a city with so much culture and history turned into a modern-day war zone. 😢

Yes, they were legally purchased. You seem to not understand what is meant by 'legally purchased'. When we say that the guns used in crimes were 'legally purchased', we're not necessarily saying that the criminals walked into a gun store and bought the guns legally, and then committed crimes with them (although in the case of many mass shootings, that is indeed the case) - we're saying that the gun's origin can be traced back to a legal purchase at some point in time. This means that the criminal bought the gun illegally from a friend who might have just sold it to them and then reported it stolen, or maybe it was bought as a 'straw purchase' which is when someone without a criminal record buys a gun legally for someone who does have a criminal record, and then reports the gun stolen so they don't get in trouble for the crimes that get committed with that gun, or maybe the gun was stolen from someone who bought it legally .... The point is that most if not all guns used in crimes were at some point purchased legally from a gun store. Shut down the gun stores, and you shut down the access to guns.

How many ghost guns haven’t been seized yet? Making legal gun stores shut down will only cut off law abiding people. As for Straw Purchases, that is a felony. You might be able to do that once and say that you lost it, but multiple times? Also look at the War on Drugs. Did the supply of drugs stop or get worse? We can’t keep people or drugs from entering the country illegally. You don’t think that the Black Market for guns would explode?
