As always, great video. I rinse my tanks similar to the way you describe after every trip at home, just with a different branded back-fill device. After dumping the black tank, I always use my black tank flush first with a water meter 1-2 times to get some spray action going and then follow it with the back-fill process. Thank you for encouraging people to not do this at a public dump station with others waiting. It’s unreal it has to be said but it does.

The bonus tip is a game changer. I always struggle getting my water hose through the opening at the bottom because it has these strong plastic flaps with long screws on the inside. always good rv info here! One handy item to have around an rv is split loom wiring protector, [ flexible black tube cut along its length to slip over wires] not only does it protect wire but you could run it along that sharp edge underneath your slides eliminating the danger and also run it around openings in metal that wire goes through to keep the wire from being damaged by the cut metal edge! Or you could save some money and recycle some old air water or fuel hoses by cutting along the hose to slip over shap edges underneath or inside utility areas... it usually holds itself on but i add a small shot of silicone adhesive inside slit every foot or so to secure it

Is there a a reason to use the rhino blaster to backfill instead of using the black tank flush with your flow meter?
@melvinp.h.3069 Жыл бұрын
That's a great question...
@archaney Жыл бұрын
Filling the black tank through the black tank flush port is what I have been doing. I can't think of a benefit of using the Rhino Blaster other than possibly speed, assuming the spray nozzles flow rate is less than straight out of the hose with the Rhino. ???
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Жыл бұрын
Greg, great question... heres a few things to consider. 1) some folks dont have a black tank flush port, so this would be a no brainer. 2) i havent tested this yet, but i will assume youll be able to get water into the tank much quicker using the rhino blaster over the flush port. You dont need to regulate the pressure at the pipe. The flush port needs to be regulated. Plus you have an open valve instead of going through a tank sprayer. 3) your also getting water to sit in the sewer pipe for a little while. maybe im overthinking it, but this gets a little bit of a soak and rinse in the pipe in addition to the tank. 4) you can clean your gray tanks too, the flush port doesnt do that, obviously. both do the same thing in the end, but if im using the black tank flush port, its going to be just to get a spray down on the walls, which i definitely will continue to do. otherwise, i like the rinser better.
@GregsWorkshopOregon Жыл бұрын
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS That's a good and very through answer, thank you. Second question, is it ok to have a dedicated black tank flush hose that connects to the spray port quick connect on the RV as long as it has a vacuum breaker and valve? All of my hookups are in the same spot on my new trailer and it would be pretty convenient that way.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Жыл бұрын
I think that’s fine, I would check to find a plumbing diagram to be sure, but I’m almost certain all rv’s with a black tank flush or fill ports have a vacuum breaker installed on the line before the tank.

Good Job! I've simplified this process. I use water meter on black tank rinse and fill 3/4 full and then open black tank valve. Simplifies the process and less parts to carry.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Жыл бұрын
Thank you, and yes that will do the same thing. I do this though because the plastic vacuum breaker inside the walls of the rv is known to fail and leak so I try to avoid using it as much as possible. Plus this method is putting resting water inside your drain pipes so you get a little bit of a soak in the pipes too. Thanks for watching bud!

If Im at full hook-ups or at a dump site I do the black tank flush SEVERAL times. I do close the valve to fill my black tank and continue this process til the water coming out is clear and free of debris. Usually takes an 30-60min and I do this during packup.

I did get the Rhino blaster based on this video and found it worked well and was really convenient. It did however take a while to refill and dump the tanks more than once compared to your bucket method down the toilet. It probably wouldn’t be feasible at an even moderately busy dump station. So, I may still try to use the much faster bucket method when using a dump station and the rhino blaster when I have full hookup and plenty of time to rinse the tanks a couple times. The other thing is, in order to refill the tanks to 75%, I do wonder how to account for the amount of water the hose itself holds and how much more we might need to add to reach 75% in the tanks.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS6 күн бұрын
Hey Peter, thanks for sharing... I'm kind of with you... im not sure if the bucket method is quicker because you still have to fill the bucket, but it does "feel" quicker when you dump that bucket into the toilet. Im also going to do some testing to see what works better... the bucket may agitate things in that tank better than the rinser. i have some black tank videos coming up and ill keep you posted. thanks for being here my friend!

@hularock2705 Жыл бұрын
I do the same. If equipped, your doing the same thing.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Жыл бұрын
That’s correct, however, you have to regulate the pressure flow if you’re using the black tank flush port because it’s going through plumbing lines. Using the rinser allows you to fill the tank faster because you don’t need to regulate the water pressure at the termination pipe. Additionally, if you ever get a clog, a black tank flush port isn’t going to help. By using a rinser you’re pushing backwards pressure on that clog which may help to dislodge it.
@hularock2705 Жыл бұрын
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS 1. If already have a regulator at the water connection there is no need. If your looking for a "Faster" way, to fill the tank, a 5 gallon bucket does the trick.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Жыл бұрын
I use a “t” at the water connection, I use a separate hose for black tank cleaning that connects to the other side of the “t” that is not regulated, so it definitely fills up faster than using regulated water. Using a 5 gallon bucket also takes longer because you have to turn the water off and carry the bucket inside, then dump it down the toilet, go back out and repeat 5 times. Even if that time is minimal, it’s still extra time. All that time the rinser is constantly filling the tank, No wasted time turning it off carrying the bucket inside, dumping, then back out to fill again. Shooting unregulated water directly into the tank is much quicker than any method. Simple logic. Plus with the rinser you can apply back pressure to a clog, as I mentioned earlier and you can fill and rinse gray tanks. I won’t argue that a black tank flush port is “doing the same thing” to fill the tank, it even has its benefits like spraying down the walls, but it’s slower without question (unless the campground water is not higher than the regulator, which is rarely the case) and doesn’t give you the ability to clean gray tanks. Thats why I featured it in the video. I realize you want to continue using the flush port, and that’s perfectly fine. I’m just trying to help others and share ideas. Not trying to argue with you bud.
@hularock2705 Жыл бұрын
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS not trying to argue either, its a good option if you do not have a built in Black tank flush BUT a waste of $$$$ if you do. Just saying.

If I can add a piece of advice it would be to have backups. Carry extra everything. Fresh water hose, extension for your electric service line(as well as surge protector and dogbone), and sewer line. I found out the hard way on our very first trip with our RV when the camp ground put the fresh water hookup at the front of the rig instead of in the back with everything else. At one campground the electric and water was in the front. You need to do this ahead of time because if you need to buy it from the campground chances are you're going to pay at least 25% more.

And I found out last night that the water sitting in your fresh water tank in this current Texas heat will make you take a hot shower whether you want to or not with hot water heater off. ☀️🔥I’m new to the rv life, so this is going to be a new FUN journey! The black tank master class really helped a lot, well, hell all your videos have helped me out a lot. Well thank you for helping everyone who watches avoid the pitfalls of rving…✌🏾

I use a bidet so there is no TP. I wonder if I will eventually need to black tank flush. I am scared to flush until I replace the cheap internal vacuum breaker that can leak in your RV. I need to make that an external brass fitting.

It should be noted the Rhino blaster only works if there is a straight shot into the black tank. If there is a bend in the exit pipe from the tanks exit valve it's completely useless.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS11 ай бұрын
It’s purpose is to back fill the tank, so you can fill, soak and rinse… not spray a jet into it. That’s why it has a gate valve, so you can fill the tank. Has nothing to do with jetting water into the tank. All this is explained in the video. With the gate valve closed the “jet” of water is underwater in a matter of 3 seconds anyway. I could understand your confusion, calling it a “rhino blaster” can may be misleading, lol but it’s not a pressure washer. It’s a filler and rinser. Hope that helps.

An easier and quicker way is to get a gate valve at your hose connection. After you dump your black tank close the gate valve and open your grey tank with the black tank open. It will even the water between the 2 tanks. Close the grey water valve then then the gate valve. Repeat a couple times. It fill the black tank in 20 seconds and saves on water.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS7 ай бұрын
this method does work a little, but this method presents 2 problems. If you have a larger gray tank or combination of gray tanks you can overflow your black tank. additionally, if you have less water in your gray tank than your black tank capacity you arent cleaning the entire black tank. its going to be extremely rare the amount of gray water you are using is the same amount of water you need to clean your entire black tank. you really need to measure how much gray water your putting in your black tank so you know you can fill it most of the way and get it clean. by using the rhino blaster and a flow meter you are accurate to the gallon. this also gives you the ability to clean your gray tanks, which can actually get worse smells than black tanks. thanks!
@dbsimmons7 ай бұрын
@@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS you have to manage the levels of your grey tank also but I've never has a overflow and I get 3 flushes per grey tank. It's level amount more than capacity. As long as you're level or close to level it won't over flow.

What is the difference between using the black tank flush on the camper versus the flush system you show?
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS5 ай бұрын
couple things... the flush port is a sprayer that using RV plumbing, so it will need to be regulated and its going to be much slower considering its a sprayer. Using the Rhinoblaster allows you to not have to regulate the flow and fill the tank much quicker. It also puts water in exit pipes to help loosen up and clean, the flush port only fills the tank. Most importantly, the Rhinoblaster also allows you to back fill your gray tanks quickly, the black tank flush port wont. Its also convenient because you can do everything right in one spot, while your dumping your tanks. Set it up when you park and tear it down when you leave. Hope that helps. amzn.to/446lxuP

Hi Ross - Hope all is well!! Life is good with us except that we should be up camping in Maine right now. Had to cancel a 33-day, 10 campsite trip because our dog ended up needing surgery. He's on the path to recovery but I cringe each day when it's 90 very humid degrees outside but 70 degrees in Maine! Anyway... I have used (and am very satisfied with) your black tank bucket rinse method for years now. Is this new hose method in addition to the bucket or in place of the bucket? You probably mention it but I might have missed it. Also love the last bonus tip. Amazon is my next stop!! 😂 Take care!
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Жыл бұрын
Hey Eric, first off, I'm glad to hear your dog is doing well. We lost one in November and it was very difficult. That stinks about the trip too. I would say this can be used in addition or in replace. One thing I still love about the bucket dump is getting 5 gallons of water in in a matter of 5 seconds gets a lot of things moving around in there. Plus it hits right where poop pyramids form. If you are happy with the bucket, no need to change. I like the rinser method because I can get my gray tanks rinsed. Personally, Ill probably use both methods in the future.

1) No pressure regulator needed so it’s faster, and 2) you can clean your gray tanks. 3) Not every RV has a black tank rinse port. Also, I was not paid to talk about the rinser. My job with this channel is to help people and show people all their options. I talk about other rinsing methods in other videos too. I don’t promote products for the sake of a paycheck. I've been a professional driver for over 40 years. I have never had a bathroom in my truck. I don't understand why everyone has to use their camper bathrooms on the road. Most rest areas and fuel stations have restrooms. It's not much weight to carry but there is some. With the crappy workmanship these days I would be worried about wearing holes in the tanks. I make sure everything is empty before I move. I you're gonna dry camp, fill as close to where you are camping. When I am at a campground I fill my fresh water in case of power failure that way I can still be self sufficient. I also shut off the city water every time I leave the rv and when I go to bed at night. A burst interior line can do tons of damage if you don't know it has happened. Shutting the water off could stop a lot of damage. Just being extra careful.
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS6 ай бұрын
the tanks are made of polypropeline, humas waste wont degrade the tanks. I think the bigger issue is people driving with full tanks, which can cause sway and porpoising issues, and there has been some tanks that actually fell out due to the weight.

I've seen some scheduled maintenance list: columns- each trip/monthly/quarterly/yearly. I'm sure each manufacturer has some things in common and it would be up to the individual to ensure a particular task is added or placed in the correct column. I'm a fan of checklist! I used the ones that you offered for before leaving home, arrival at campsite and before leaving campsite, took them and made them my own. Just got in the Camlock door latches and will be installing this week. @@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS

So I use the black tank flush port (with the same flow meter) to fill the tank with the gate closed to then dump. What is the benefit to back fill the tank over using the flush port? The Rhinoblaster is good in the event you get a clog as you are able to backfill and possibly break the clog by pushing it back up into the tank. I just don't see the benefit of backfilling through the Rhinoblaster vs using the flush port. Is it just preference?
@RVTIPSANDTRAVELS Жыл бұрын
first, some folks dont have a flush port so i wanted to give them another option... but if you do, they also have a vacuum breaker built into the plumbing and they are widely known to fail and leak. replacing them can be a pain because they are usually buried. many people have stopped using them or use them less. most mfgr's are using the same cheap plasti VB. by using a rinser obviously wont go through that vacuum breaker. it also puts resting water in your drain pipes, so it gives them sort of a soak and rinse too while its filling. you can also do this much quicker since you dont have to regulate the water flow going into the pipe and into the tank. you do have to regulate the water flow if using the flush port since its going through interior plumbing. you can use the rinser to flush the gray tanks too. flush port wont do that. youre correct it can be looked at as preference, but those are some things that i could think of. thanks for watching and commenting MF
@MF-vg3qt Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. All good points. I'm going to try the Rhinoblaster on my next trip. I never considered the water flow. Our campground is on a well and it takes me about 14 minutes to fill the black tank through the flush port....so about an hour for a full clean since I fill and dump 4x. Maybe it'll fill faster thru the Rhiunoblaster and save me some time.
