Brilliant video Murray! The Cobbler must be the classic proof of why Munro bagging is such a daft thing to do? I've never done The Cobbler, but did spend too many hours in rain and midges ticking off the Arrochar Munros back in the day
@ScotlandsMountains Жыл бұрын
I think all the hills around the Arrochar Alps are belters - always enjoy my trips over there for sure. Cobbler or one of the other Corbetts must take the title as best mountain in the Alps though I think :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray

Hi Murray great wee video, even though the 360 camera gives me the wobbles 😅 Loved the view of Arrochar from the sth peak. I was in Arrochar this week and caught nice weather. I got a decent shot of the 3peaks looking ominous and sun on the forest below. I was wondering what the views were like from up there, now l know. Loved the shot of Mark coming through the needle !!! Thanks Murray, stay safe......Alioban

Climbs like this must be tough to film, Murray, but so glad you do because it's awesome for us. Great to catch up with Gerry again and Mark. I think Mark was the one who got that pretty spectacular footage of you from base camp on another video, wasn't he? Loved the abseiling, loved the Eye of the Needle, loved everything.

Ah the Cobbler! It really is such an iconic mountain isn't it. Was up there end of July on a brilliant sunny day with a mate and only saw three other hikers probably due to it being during the week. I have so many fond memories in the glen where it all began. Bealach a Mhaim as well as it reminds me of where my journey began. Another great video Murray!

Nice to see Gerry and Ben Arthur. I bought Gerry's book this year and climbed this as part of a very short trip in August (our weather was more typical Scottish Summer so we didn't thread the needle on the wet rocks!)

Cobblers in my family are either Anglo- and Anglo-American shoemakers, or a nice dessert made by Mom :-) In the mountains there, they are quite something else. What a fantastic trip of climbing and wonderful views.

I believe it was named the Cobbler because it looked like one. It's real name is Ben Arthur BTW.

i used to climb there a long time ago when those paths didnt really exist and people were few on weekdays!!! the route up the outside of the eye is a great way tho, as u say, u do need to be able to climb a bit and not mind exposure too much!! winter is best and the midgies are nowhere to be seen!!! magnificent climbs on the North summit - right angle bend looks oh sooo much harder and scarier than it really is - there were victorian pitons still rusting away !!!

Excellent shots, Murray. I've heard that the Cobbler was named such because it's said to resemble the man leaning over his shoe work but tbh I can't see it at all. Can you tell me if the south peak is the man? 🥴
@AlpinistGGerry Жыл бұрын
Nope. Centre peak is Cobbler. South peak is Cobbler’s daughter… Jean’s peak. North peak Cobbler’s wife. Strange but true.
@ScotlandsMountains Жыл бұрын
Thank you 🙏 I am with you - I dont see the resemblance at all either 😂😂👍
@natalieminnis Жыл бұрын
That looks like a fabulous route! But I would NOT want to downclimb the South Peak! I tried to scramble up it once with a group but it was a damp, murky day and we thought better of it and walked round the back instead. What length of rope do you need for the abseil? It looks like a long way down.

How do you get your rope back if it's hooked up top?

good question but if you noticed there a re two strands we abseil down , then at the bottom you pull the rope through from one end (if that makes sense :) Thanks for watching ATB Murray
