In the end I decided to wire my 3 PIR's and 3 security lights exactly the way you illustrated. And they work a treat :-) . Of course, they'd never pass any sort of inspection, but they'll do me for now. Thanks very much for your help :-)

Great.....just what I was looking for to wire 3 PIR's and associated lighting round a detached garage after a recent attempted break-in !! Thanks for taking the time to help us non electricians out :-) . Now.....how to get that wiring done in practical terms.....here we go.... !! ;-)

My prefered way of achieving this with outside lights is to wire a seperate 3 core to pick up the PIRs and then a seperate cable, either 2 or 3 core to the lights. Run the cables back to the dis board and make a wago joint in a labelled adaptable box. You can go a step further and run individual cables to PIRs which can allow easier fault finding when they eventually go wrong, down side is extra cost of cable. With corridor lights you can run common 3core through all lights and PIRs, the only problem can be if you need emergency fittings that are to be tested with the remaining lights staying on, in which case you need an extra core or self test fittings.

Question at 1:48 you are drawing a line what is the cable linking all PIR ? Is that the black on a 3 core twin and earth cable or a separate cable?? Can you identify that plz Cheers

I never tought of this solution. My schematic relied on a 2pole 2 way switch to switch between power from the pir and mains power. But the use case is similar. 2 to 3 pir that control 4 led flood lights. To light up the area around the house and the gras area ontop

Hi. So I've wire one 2 pir's, then connected two led 20w floodlights to the switch live, neutral, earth. It works but when the leds are in standby, half of the little leds are slightly lit up. Is this normal? When you fully unplug power the lights completely go out

I have a very specific case going on here that I'm not sure how to handle. I've installed Led tape lights underneath both sides of my bed. I've installed one PIR sensor on each side, so the idea is that only one side would light up at night when detecting presence on respective side. Because I have a lack of wall outlets, I'm trying to use only one power supply, so basically each led light and sensor are in parallel with the power supply. The issue is, this PIR sensor closes the circuit up when it's connected to power, before actually opening it and waiting for "presence", so when one side detects presence, it lights up, but when it powers down, the other side lights up immediately, as if the sensor had been connected to power, and it keeps doing this alternation a few times before it switches off completely. I'm thinking two diodes might do the trick, but I'm not sure.

Hi what happens if 2 motion sensor are activated at same time in this circuit.will it damage the load. I want to attach 3 motion sensor to a bell to be used as burglar alarm. One motion sensor infront of each door which connect to a bell. Pls suggest
@eksine
@eksine Жыл бұрын
will not damage, they are all doing the same thing: connecting load (light) to the HOT, the motion sensor is simply acting as a relay triggered by infrared detection

Gteat video thanks! Quick question - am I right in thinking that if one of the PIR's were activated and turned on the lights, you couldn't then use the one way switch to then turn the light off could you? I'm guessing youd have to wait until the time set on the PIR had expired.

Correct
@eksine
@eksine Жыл бұрын
@@javandermerwe you are both wrong, the bypass switch is intended to turn the lights on, an over ride, however he drew the diagram wrong anyways because he drew it between the wrong 2 PIR sensors, it needs to be on the same location as where the load is.

As drawn your PIRs look like they're in series. To get them in parallel you'd need a JB with a second SL feed from a 2G switch, then 3C+E from that JB to each PIR wouldn't you?
@darrenowen3338
@darrenowen3338 4 жыл бұрын
To be in series, the output (switched live) from one would have to be the feed (live) for the next one, and so on. You'd either have to activate all three to get your lights on, or the inactivated one(s) would be redundant.

Am I right in saying that if a potential burglar decided to rip one PIR out from that set-up, then non of the others could still act independently ?? I want to wire mine up so that if one PIR was ripped out, then the other two could still work independently and be more of a deterrent. A diagram of how to wire a circuit the way I would like to do it would be very helpful, I can see me having wires here, there, and every bloody where !! 🤔😳

I'm guessing we use 3 core and earth from supply?

Yes, I run interconnected smoke alarms like that as well. Remember to terminate the switched live properly within the consumer unit.
@jamesgledhill9667

Only need twin and earth from supply. Then three core between pir. Then twin and earth to light
@loosecannon5813
@loosecannon5813 4 жыл бұрын
When I run the 3 core back to the consumer unit, I've then got a switch line which can be easily 500v insulation resistance test, also I can add and have added additional interconnected smoke alarms from the board.

@@loosecannon5813 what's smoke alarms got to do with it? You only need switch wire from pir to light.

Your bypass switch is not drawn correctly, if those 2 PIR are off on the switched side your lights will not turn on because the lights are wired on the switched side between the 2nd and 3rd PIR, you have drawn the bypass switch between the 1st and 2nd PIR which is not the same location as the load (lights) , please take a look at your diagram again and look at where your load is in relation to the PIR's
