FlightChops do you have a second channel? Because you always say "stay tuned for a full series on that" but I don't see that much coming from this channel just curious, huge fan of your videos and the quality of your work life long fan here:)
@FlightChops8 жыл бұрын
+Noah Farrell - hey Noah - I publish a new video every second Friday, and we are nearing 100 episodes now... But I don't release multi part series all in a row... So what I do for ongoing related content is make play lists on the channel home page, and add the related episodes as they are competed. There is a playlist for my original "tail wheel conversion training" that has to be near a dozen episodes... And the "mountain flying training" series that has about 8 episodes! There is also one for the WWII warbird / Stearman training that is about 6 episodes. And this episode is the 3rd in the DHC -1 Chipmunk Series that will likely get to 6-8 episodes when we cover formation and aerobatics... You've inspired me to make that play list now with the first three Chipmunk episodes that are already published.

Thanks Flight Chops. You do a great job on your videos. I like to think of myself as a Swiss Army knife when it comes to flying. I did leave one off that list, Rigid airship. All gone before my time but, it must have been a magnificent experience standing on the flight deck of one of those graceful ships. Unless of course, a small storm popped up and snapped it in two. Then, I'd rather just stay home and watch flying videos on youtube.

So many questions. Did we see a spoiler at 1:00? "That was *&$%*# greasy." That was my grandad's favorite term for a smooth landing. It being given on your first landing in the aircraft is a huge compliment, you would've made a great ace back in the day.

can't help it.....I'm reminded of the song... Put your right hand in Your right hand out Your right hand in And shake it all about You do the hokey pokey And you turn yourself around Just bought an RC Spitfire and practiced 3 point landings this morning. You really have to stay ahead of the aircraft with the rudder on the take offs and landings, especially since the main wheels are so close together. I had to abort one take off - I throttled up too fast and did not get enough right rudder to offset the natural pull to the left - she was headed toward the safety fence so I shut her down and started over. Once she is in the air she flies like a dream.

On the first landing, after you mentioned having to make it to the displaced threshold, he said you were OK to land there...Are the rules regarding displaced thresholds different in Canada (from the US)? Can you actually land before them or did I miss some context?
@thehoeser8 жыл бұрын
There is no legal issue with landing in the displaced threshold. This is my home airport, and I know that surface is in excellent condition and the approach path is suitable for the chipmunk to land in the displaced threshold. It's not something I would encourage on unknown runways, or at night. For reference, here's what transport canada has to say on it. From the Transport Canada AIM: "When the portion of the runway before the displaced threshold is marked with displaced threshold arrows (see AGA 5.4.1), it is permissible to use that portion of the runway for taxiing, for takeoff and for the landing roll-out from the opposite direction. In addition, this displaced portion of the runway may be used for landing; however, it is the pilot’s responsibility to ensure that the descent path can be safely adjusted to clear all obstacles. "

What did your instructor say about the last landing? Something about rear wheel first is for the pros? When I did training on the Falke, I was taught rear-wheel first from the beginning. What's your take on 3-point vs. wheels first vs. rear wheel first?
@thehoeser8 жыл бұрын
I said "exiting on alpha, that's only for the pros" - really a comment in jest, it's just the first taxiway on Runway 12 indicating a very short landing.

Such a shame that ALL pilots do not have the opportunity to learn how to handle landings, especially crosswinds in a tail dragger. There are subtleties, which if properly taught and learned will increase confidence in their abilities. Which will build a solid base for a lifetime of safe flying.
