I remember working in a mental health ward years ago in a security position where we would often be called to restrain patients. I remember restraining a young female by having an arm each and simply sitting on the couch with one of us either side. It was very effective. She was then administered her medication and had no idea why we were holding her. She apologized for the situation, the poor girl had some disassociative condition. It's very effective biomechanically as it's hard to sit up, to hinge your hips while your read end is sink into a couch and your arms have 100kg weights either side attached.

Having your arms behind your back in a prone position prevents your shoulders from supporting your bodyweight as well, making breathing noticeably more difficult even when not excited, gassed or overweight. Making only exhaling easy with inhaling being a struggle can lead to quite the panic reaction, similar to a drowning experience.

These principles, Force Continuum, not tripping the fall reflex… have been invaluable. Mortal Kombat techniques are no help when faced with an actual human being in a social context

Good points thank you i have spent many years dabbling in Aikido and Chinese chin na but ive always felt that simple judo techniques are often more practicle and the popularity of BJJ as a hobby is interesting ? One think to wrestle on a mat totaly differant in the so called street Really usefull comments cheers
