Get the roll cage or the tempered glass protector to help the lens stay protected. They wont degrade the image. Also, gopro 8 batteries have a higher discharge rate than the previous ones. As someone evaluating GoPro Hero 8 it has been interesting viewing the various video/stories about these issues 1) 'legs' - some H8's have no movement whilst others do - sounds like a production issue. Some reviewers love the legs as it removes use of cage 2) battery message - GP could have explained it clearer, in fact, it is still not clear exactly what it means. Rumour is Boost is impacted but no one has proved this yet. Some reviewers say they have noticed no impact even incl Boost. 3) non-replaceable lens is a weakness most agree especially if doing real action stuff There also seems to be microSD card issues (linked incorrectly to battery % low?) and firmware updates that kills the H8 instead of fixing it (hassle to update from scratch) Comparison tests of GPH7 v GPH8 v OsmoAction doing same tasks with similar best settings end up using the similar (+/-2%) battery power over the test

Aaaand I just got some screen and lens protectors that seem super-clear ... well they ARE super clear you can't even tell any difference besides the lens not scratching if you drop it. So in those regards I'm not finding any issues so far with the Hero8, I'm not trying to change any minds but rather just speaking out as someone not experiencing these same problems.

As I understood, the hero8 has no changable lenscover for two reasons: 1. GoPro 8 is waterproof until 5m so a changeable lens could be a point where water could enter the camera 2. they compensated it by using thicker and more solid glass in the 8 - so it is not as fragile as the glass from the previous models. I just can't believe how some people don't understand basic things like maybe your foldable mount has a defect and even if it does it won't be a problem because the hero 8 is known for its hyper smooth 2.0 stabilization?!(I don't know anyone who actually likes the frame you had to put on the hero 7 for it to mount this is a huge upgrade) When he shows that a notification pops up when he puts the older battery saying the go pro isn't able to perform at peak performance it's very simple to understand:Older Battery=not peak performance,Updated Battery=peak performance, and if he really doesn't like how the notification pops up he can just select for it not to show up again. Even though it is true that the lens aren't removable they're 2x stronger so that shouldn't be a problem for most situations. I worked on a few videos with GoPro, I dont like how they act about any crticism, but I still love the camera. You should definetelly return yours because mine doesnt wobble at all, it is sturdy and it just works in a mount as usual. About screen protector, yes it is harder to change it, you have to swap whole front side, but consider GoPro beeing sturdier I dont take it as a problem. How many times do you need to swap that thing? 2-3 times in a life of a casual GoPro? I would rather do that the harder way (let someone repair/swap it) than having my GoPro less sturdy than it is right now in eight gen.

So i guess the one in the video is faulty. - the lens not removeable might be the only proper reason not to upgrade from this whole video. But for the rest, this video isnt helpful at all.

@@Damae138 I just got hero 8 2 weeks ago, and yes I agree with you. The battery with the blue strip just only can be use on GPH8 and about the fingers, so far is ok for me. Just need to tight a little bit only.

I have the SAME issue with the legs!!!!! It is NOT from a loose thumb screw. How those things are attached and built are the problem. They shouldnt go past 90 degrees and they do. They are not structured enough. Maybe we got super early production ones and they have fixed these for other units?

The wiggling/crooked mounting issue is REAL. No matter how tight you make it. Ive bought and had to return 3 different Hero8's and even tried a Hero9 and they all wiggle and can easily mount several degrees crooked using the crappy folding fingers, making your footage you take useless without knowing until you look back at it. Ive talked to Go pro several times about the issue and they just try to send me replacement fingers which doesn't fix the design flaw. I wanted to upgrade to the 8 for the stabilization i need. They should come out with a fixed finger mount that you can swap out so that it doesn't wiggle and mount crooked. This was a big mistake, and Im surprised I haven't heard more about it. I cant just be getting a bunch of bad ones. Even the $650 CAD GoPro MAX uses these flimsy folding fingers. And using the protective housing isn't a real option: way too bulky, lowers audio quality, and you have to take it in and out to charge or plug in.

The fingers have to give a bit because if they were completely rock solid, they would snap really easily.

I don't like the legs either. Not because they have a lot of give and are wobbly (they aren't, if you tight the screw well enough), but because I'm concerned they won't last as long due to being a moving part. My question to you guys is, will the GoPro 8 fit in the GoPro 7 case?

I've made a huge expensive mistake today. I bought the new GoPro Hero 8 Media Mod and Light Mod. However, I put the Light onto the Media Mod's top shoe facing the wrong way. It's stuck as fuck and now I can't get it off without breaking it or using tools.

The non-removable lens is so you don’t get condensation stuck under it.

Sailed through the panama canal during the summer (extremely humid), snorkeled in barbados, swam in the middle of the atlantic and snowboarded in norway within a 4 month span and never had condensation in my hero 7 black. Just on the surface of the lens/camera. Not saying it doesn't happen, but it didn't happen to me and i'm pretty sure my GoPro has seen harsher weather conditions than most people.

I just bought the Hero 8 and mine doesn’t have any play like he is complaining about. If I had anything to say is this.... I am an ATV Motovlogger and my only gripe on the initial purchase would be the battery door shares the same access point to connect my mic adapter. It was the easiest fix to address. I bought a battery door that supports the Type C door latch. Other than this, great camera!

Something I learned early on after the specs for the hero 8 were released is that if you want to upgrade your hero 7, buy a brand new hero 7 🤣🤣🤣🤣

I just returned a GoPro 8 black after about 5 days, had an insane amount of issues with it, constant SD card errors and then rectified itself before formatting even after the card had been formatted multiple times. Back screen constantly freezing and sometimes wouldn't even turn on at all. Then when charging would run extremely hot. Did I just get a faulty camera? I really want an action cam for surfing and snowboarding but I don't want to get screwed on a dodgy camera again that I miss filming another entire holiday because of.

How is the file system on 8. When recording in 4k does it automatically split large files into 4gb or 8:52 sec like it does on 5 Thanks for the updates. If the hinges not loose or broken they will be in time.

Every camera does that, it's due to file size limitation of the filesystem and has nothing to do with gopro

Is there some software you need to use to edit your rides for posting? What do you suggest in getting in the gopro camers? Is this hard understand how to set it up ? Like many sub menus,

I have been using my GoPro Hero 5 Black for several years and have been completely satisfied with it, to the extent of buying many of the peripherals, including the underwater case down to 100 meters. Guess what, the monitor quite working. All the other features work, but just can't see what's happening. GoPro Tech says there's nothing you or they can do. Great. Except, they will give me $100 of the Hero 8, $200 off the Hero 7. Perplexed as to which direction to go. Any suggestions

The battery issue you mentioned is a feature availability issue. GoPro says that some program features may not work with a non GoPro 8 battery. And, I found that the mounting flingers don't wobble if you tighten the screw down. Don't just screw it down til it stops, firm it up a bit. I agree with the lens no being replaceable but there is a cover you can buy for it.

The whole Hero 8 is a step in the wrong direction, not just those flimsy "fingers" to mount the camera. The side door is a so dumb idea that it's hard to believe GoPro could do such a stupid thing. Try plugging a USB power source leaving the battery bay and SD card slot exposed and check for dust a ambient moisture contamintation. Will see how long your camera lasts. Besides that the unremovable lens cover is a serious drawback on an "action" camera. There a lot of videos on KZbin from guys having problems with the camera freezing and the Hypersmooth boost with lots of image noise. This camera is an absolute failure. The cappy Hero 7 was better and GoPro never fixed its issues. Why would now on the same hardware with just a very expensive firmwae update? Enough of GoPro.

And they no longer include 2 adhesive mounts--only 1 also they don't give you a USB 3.1 cable, just a USB 2.0 cable for charging.
