3 Questions to ask before buying a Used car

I like to see when they got the last oil change. I couldn't tell you how many times I've looked at a car and the dealer couldn't tell me when the oil was changed last, but yet it had a 152 point Yada Yada inspection. Or when they car knly has 1500 miles on it and has been sitting on the lot for 2 years with the same oil in it and they refuse to change it for you, run away

Excellent and valuable advice. I got my 2013 MKS in 2021 out of NC (I'm in MD) but my cop brother ran the VIN to get the history on it. That was a huge help.

When buying a used car from a dealer, ask for 3 things - 1. where they got the car- trade in or auction, 2. Ask for their dealer inspection report for the car, 3. if the car has manufacturer warranty left, ask for the "in-service" date - this is date the warranty actually started from, which is often not the same as the date or year the car was manufactured. Inspection report, because if you’re paying the 1200 maintenance fee and all they did was fill the wiper fluid, you’re getting hosed!💜💜

Yeah. I think for me personally, most important thing I like to see on a carfax is regular oil changes at or less than the recommended miles by the manufacturer.

This is why I had all service done at the dealer on my truck I bought new in 2018, for the duration of the warranty. I didn't want any issues if warranty work was required, and also to have those records available for a future sale. Once the truck was out of warranty, I never stepped foot in that dealership again.

Most used cars aren't going to have a service history records unless you buy from a private seller

Don't pay more for a trade in... it's so easy to trade in a vehicle with a slipping transmission

Warranty is next to useless though. The manufacturer will put almost everything you raise as an issue or fault with the vehicle under "wear and tear" so when it comes to taking advantage of 'the manufacturer warranty' you'll quickly see how useless it is.

I’m confused why it matters if you’re an engineer, todays engineers aren’t inventors or people who like to tinker, they went to college and got a degree basically doing math, except the math isn’t used anywhere but specific industries, so going to school to become an engineer is actually a waste of money and time since it does nothing for you but make you good at math
