Thanks for the various ideas. Great for future shoots. Must try the over-head strip box again; it can be very dramatic, as you and Sophie have shown. Did like the small shadow on Sophie from the flooring - really gave depth to the image. The silver/metallic tutu was brilliant in terms of colour/texture. As always, well done to everyone !

I like the way Sophie knew to tilt her head up towards the light when it was over her head. Either she knew or Gavin had done some test shots prior and he told her. Most new models won't know to do this so remember to direct them to look up with their head but also don't look up with the eyes so far that you see too much white underneath the iris of the eye.
@GavinHoey Жыл бұрын
Hi Jamil. Much as just pressing record and going for it sounds cool, in reality there's a lot of prep before each video and yes, that includes a run through 😉
@bostjanlaba Жыл бұрын
Gavin is one of the most pleasant, friendly teacher of photography. He's truly making you believe in yourself not being afraid of bad results etc. I have a question though - what to do, when you want to put a softbox really close but the flash head is actually too powerful even at lowest setting? I'd like to stay at f/8 or f/11 for best lens performance, but I would have to go to f/16 or even f/22. Unless I use ND filter....any other tricks? With really close (more than one) softboxes and heads too powerful, key light is already very "hot", so no room for fill light to go a stop or two more down...
@GavinHoey Жыл бұрын
Lots of things you Could do with an over bright light but I'd try HSS flash (if its available) or if you want to go low tech, I've attached white fabric to the inner or outer diffuser which acts like an ND filter in your flash 😉
@bostjanlaba Жыл бұрын
@@GavinHoey no hss on my elinchroms but I love your suggestion with additional fabric. Simple and effective for sure! Thank you! 🙏

Beautiful, as always! Question: Sophie seemed to be close to the white wall background and I'm surprised that even at 1/250th shutter speed the wall was so gray and sometimes black. How far was she from the background so that the spill can be kept at a minimum???
@MicahTischler Жыл бұрын
I'm flummoxed by the final bit - that tuturuff look seemed to be begging for smoke (given how the edges looked like smoke curls themselves), and this is a Gavin Hoey video ... yet, there was no smoke! This leaves me very curious if that was attempted and it just didn't look right, per the note about "if it doesn't work, don't show anyone." Whatever the case, massive, ongoing thanks to Sophie and @GavinHoey.

Going to save this video for when I get a stripbox, Thanks Gavin!!

I do love a stripbox/grid combo Cory but why wait? What happens if you use a bare bulb or an octabox or a cookie instead of a stripbox? I don't know but now I'm curious to find out!

Another great Video - I have a question. I am new to portraits. It seems like my lights are always in my shots. Is it because I am just using speed lights - if I use a stronger light source would that work to back them up. Or am I just setting it up wrong from the beginning. Thank you
