37 years ago, my dad made my 10 year-old self a deal: I save my weekly $5 allowance until it reached $100 and he would pay the difference on a Browning BL-22. I passed up a LOT of GI Joes and Masters of the Universe action figures, but reached that savings goal. I still LOVE to shoot that lever gun and am forever grateful to dad for teaching me lessons about delayed gratification.

My first 22 was a Browning BL 22. My father thought me not to buy junk. Mine was made in Japan. It lasted about 10 years until the barrel burnt up. Shot a lot of rounds back in the day that a 500 round brick was less than ten bucks. Now at 63 I own a Henry. Still have the old Browning, as it was a gift from father.

That Browning sure is sweet! Scratches and all. Watching you both shoot out in the desert reaffirms something I learned many, many years ago. (for me) I believe most people will become a far better shot plinking at different targets, at different unknown ranges. than punching holes in paper at fixed ranges. As a teenager back in the early seventies, my friends and I would plink at cans and such at ranges up to 100 yards. With old H&R .22 revolvers! Thousands of rounds fired each year. It became an obsession to get out there and shoot. All money accuired went to .22 shells. We learned how to shoot quite well. Fast forward a few years to the Navy, during a selection excercise for a special shipboard anti terrorism team (Race Horse team). I was asked if I had any experience shooting a 1911 .45. I said no. (We fired 3 shots in basic. BLANKS! In Orlando, FL RTC) The instructor fired for demonstration. I fired last in my group. No one came close to my score. Not even the instructor. He stared at my target. Then he called me a liar! Me laughing didn't make the situation any better. How did this happen? Thousands and thousands of rounds of .22 expended. Rifles and cheap handguns. Your video's epitomise this. You make shooting FUN! And you do it with class. Thank you both.
@mixup983 жыл бұрын
Hello Michael, I grew up shooting in the desert here in Nevada and my friends and I also fired uncountable rounds through our .22 rifles and pistols Back then I would gladly spend my last fifty or sixty cents on a box of Lightning or Wildcat .22 shells and head out into the desert with my Glenfield Model 60 rifle. Not to brag but I would amaze my friends by shooting golf balls out of the air with my rifle or pistol. I'm glad you outshot your instructor and honestly, I've done the same thing too. Thank you so much for such a wonderful comment and my son and I both thank you for watching our video.

Only negatives to my Ruger PC are that you need tools to take it apart, and cleaning it can be a bit of a pain as it has lots of little parts and nooks and crannies that gunk gets into. Lok-tite is also a good idea as some of the screws can get loose - my front sight shot loose once at the range. Ruger did send me a new one for free, they have great service. Mag compatibility with my 9mm Glocks is a huge plus. The traditional looks means this carbine flies under the radar in some gun-phobic states. Another winner from Ruger.

At 2:45, very good demonstration as to how slow a 9mm is moving. Not waddling like a .45, but still! Ive sorta soured on the idea of the pc carbine. Nice to have fewer different types of ammo, but I can’t remember why else I wanted it…. Also, newer version is tricked out a bit more tactic-cool, if a plastic rifle by itself isn’t modern enough! Good watch, though! Love the lever. Here’s an upthumb, trading on the strength of the .22 alone :)

I really like how that ruger carbine works. Especially the takedown and magazine adaptability. It seems like it would be a great long range coyote gun for a rancher. I love the way it was hitting that steel out yonder at like…150 yards maybe? I’m not sure. Definitely at least 100 yards. I would be lucky to consistently hit that plate with no misses at 50 yards with my Hatsan 135 QE vortex .25 caliber air rifle

About 2 months ago I purchased a ruger pcc in 9 mm. I paid 640 which is a good price for a compliant rifle. No threaded muzzle which means you cannot get the cheapest one.

I would say that a man, or lady for that matter, who wanted to supply themselves with a defensive combination would do very well with such a carbine and handgun. A good outdoorsman combination is another discussion though.
