Jimny is surely more practical than Thar…. But all depends on pricing…. Looking at absurdly high price of new Breeza I am not too hopeful…. If Alpha trim onroad price goes to ₹15lacs+ once initial euphoria dries up Jimny will find it hard to get a sizeable market share….Indian buyers are much more aware now….

It is small in size … Thar has a long heritage . Jimny has to price low to open up a new segment - affordable 4 x 4 . If Maruti plans to capture a big chunk of market their pricing is vital . Brezza starts at 9 lakhs base on road and goes Upto 16 lakh . Considering the 4x4 transmission and all other very basic creature comforts jimny should be priced like Brezza with zeta version on road maximum 9 lakhs .

If lower model of jimny i.e. Zeta manual comes under 12 .50 lakhs on road then also people will opt for jimny because it has a legacy and moreover it's cost will only be above one lakh in comparison to thar 4 by 2

Jimny - affordablility, compact dimensions, Maruti service network, reliabilty. Very good 4wd drivetrain. Thar - a comparitely safer vehicle at speeds. The rwd 1.5 diesel Thar may not be that quick, the other Thars will have the Jimny for breakfast on an open highway. Both are good vehicles but credit to M&M for offering the Thar in all conceivable formats. M&M launched a well tested and sorted version of the Thar. The Jimny may sway buyers on a tighter budget but cannot “rattle” the Thar sales, imho.

First off ...Why the F did Maruti Suzuki did not launch a 3 door jimny in India 4 years ago by now they would have sold at least nearly a lak of Jimny before Thar 2nd gen was not even launched. Today the could have brought in 5 door but why not 3 door also?

Only 2% do off-roading . It’s for same logic as thar having largest second hand car which has been newly launched . It’s only if Maruti top version comes under 12 lkh .. people lured for it . Else Scorpio , thar already in market .

If jimny was launched a year or two earlier in both 2 and 4 door variants. All new Thar won't be as popular as it is now in India. Jimny has a good aftermarket support like suspension lift(shocks and springs), bumpers integrated with lights and winch compatible as well, 33 inch tyres on 15 inch rims is mountable in jimny with proper lift kit and gearing. Aftermarket giants like ARB, off road animal, fox, Tjm, tred etc. all made parts for Jimny.
