Drill music in general is too destructive and not palatable enough for mainstream fans. Most drill rappers either d!e or get locked up soon as they get big, or they make the smart decision and switch up their sound like cheif keef, durk and pop smoke. Any breakout drill hit isn’t even really drill. Look at Dior or any of durks peak stuff.

NY Drill is now flat lined. Fivio couldn't carry that touch. U got guys like 41 (Kyle Rich, Ta Ta and Jenn Carter & Dee Billz) trying to keep the genre alive, I think it's not gonna work Then there's "sexy drill". U got artists like Cash Cobain (who's the Sexy Drill Music King), Bay Swag, Chow Lee, Vontee The Singer, Dainy Dior, and others that's doing this sexy drill sub-genre now. We'll see how long it will last...and I think it's time is quickly running out.

The other thing that makes a superstar is that we dont really want someone that is or seems currently active. The fake rap fans non hood non blk fans may ideolize that, but we want you talking about your street shit...but from the past. Not Actively doing it Right Now. Thats the main problem with a lot of these fake rapper drill dudes. They gangsta 1st...rapper 2nd. SMH 🤦‍♂️ Thats why Im Never quick to overly support drill artist...cause idk what they about and what toxic shit they about to push on our culture. The perfect balance of street and mainly artist that was very believable...was 50 Cent. He was the perfect balance of that. I think Casanova couldve been another as well...if he wasn't still gang affiliated. Pop had similar qualities to both of them...and had All the other intangibles when it comes to the music and personality, so thats why we put him in that regard.

I feel like it's because 50 was honestly "street guys" worst nightmare. 50 doesn't seem like he is straight up evil. He kind of bullys the other street guys actually, and he isn't really someone you can just punk. They can't really deny that he doesn't play, and they can't really gain power over him. He is the kind of guy that has respect from the street guys, but he isn't just hanging out in the hood for no reason blasting the "ops" for clout or some shit and leaving himself wide open. He seems like it's best to just let him be 50. Like, "who the fuck is that dude?", "aw that's boo boo he's cool". Like if you got a problem with him, then you end up with a real problem, so it's best to just give him a pass.

Because NY soft and nobody outside NY is gonna take " drill" outside NY seriously. It's the safest big city in America. Most ppl outside NY think it's soft. What makes a rapper certified is when they from a area like Detroit,Chicago,Memphis, etc. Aside from parts of Jersey,Philly, DC and Baltimore ppl think the east coast on general is soft AF. King Von wouldn't be Von if he was from NY. It wouldn't hold weight. Chicago has a graveyard full of rappers and STILL had a decade run. So losing ONE artist shouldnt have tanked NY like that. Rip but Pop Smoke was not a gangster. Maybe in NY but anywhere else? Be for real? Dude got pistol whipped and popped butt naked in Beverly Hills by a 8th grader. That would NEVER happen to a rapper from Baton Rouge or Detroit. If your entire movement is based off one person you failing. And tbh,I never heard of dude or anyone playing his music when he was alive. I only heard of him after he got popped. Drill only belong on one place and that the Raw and I ain't even from there.

I really think it’s too soon to say drill music is failed but I do think the problem is there’s no real stars and drill music because as soon as they become a star, I usually go to jail but there’s tons of drill artist making music and with this kind of theory, there will always be the music, but there will never be any stars. I’m not a big fan of drill music myself. I do think it’s really too negative and the only people who listen to it are either really in the streets or just very young.

They failed trying to imitate chicago drill rappers. East coast rappers dress, talk and rap just like them. Also, copy there production alongside the UK drill rap. Another problem in the east coast is sexy drill (morphing jersey club with drill). Blood, crips and chicago gangs (gd, vice lords, cobras and ect) messed up US cities especially NYC.

First drill music sucked all around. Second New York took a style that wasn’t even its own home style. The basically copy and pasted another regions culture . New York hip hop is supposed to be original. They caught flack for copying drill. And they been caught slack for copying bloods and crips. NYC been copying other regions to get on. That’s why they are behind when they should be ahead. Don’t know if it matters these days. But New York radio ain’t even playing anything from New York.

It's cause the scene got too violent and you got the cops involved and the music itself is nothing to write home about. It's mumbleish, BIG better.

I think there's no such thing as a "drill" music. It's just modern day gangsta rap just like all the other shyt that sound alike. It's no different from Atlanta's trap sound. And obviously Chicago dudes was influenced by trap. Hell some of them even said they were inspired by Gucci man when they was young. All gangsta rap of today in general sound alike. Even niccas in New York. So why try to call it something else just cause it's coming outta Chicago? Ain't no drill, it's trap 🤷🏾

Drill music is still enjoyable and exciting, but it doesn't match the wave it had a few years ago. It'll take a special artist to reopen that lane the way it was in the past.
