Thank you, James, for showing and explaining everything step by step so very well. As a beginner (+++) bass student I find it important, even reassuring, to not just learn to play by descriptive terms such as "3rd fret on the E string" but also, actually hear the name of the note called out. That works very well for me while making progress.

Interesting on your fingerings for the shifts. I have been taught leader/follower finger technique for position changes from a Berkley trained teacher. I don't always do it and get chastised sometimes. He wouldn't like your fingerings for your position changes. :) Looks to me that it works just fine. :)

I love this drill, James. Great exercise, need to start playing this with a backing drum track. What bpm do you suggest? 60, 80, 90 or anything else?

Very nice sounding Fender P. I noticed the lolly pop tuners, thumb rest below and holes where you had removed the bridge cover. Can I ask what model/year it is and which pickups are on it or is it a custom? I really like the tone on that one!

It’s a Hama oktamu Japanese signature bass… check out my video review of it. It’s a great bass!
