I have a 4th gen Dot in every room. Removed the various motion detectors I was using and switched to the ultra sonic detection of the Dot. H-o-w-e-v-e-r, they often simply don't respond. Yes, even after the cooldown/self reset of "motion", So, I figured a work around for that. I put all of them each on a Sonoff S31 wifi switch. And set the schedule to off/on (restart) at 5 min intervals each starting at 3 a.m. This way, they all are "unplugged and plugged back in" every night before I get up. I like the ultra sonic motion detection. I have one in the master bath. When I get up to visit the toilet, a night light comes on for 3 minutes and turns itself off between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m. Its reliable since it gets its own separate reset at 10:30 p,m. One more thing. Each of my two attics have a 3rd gen Dot up there. Just in case, I do something stupid like fall through the ceiling, or something falls on me. I can use the Dot to call for help, even 911 if necessary. (I don't always have my cell phone with me, in the attics.) Cheap insurance, me thinks.

The lowest possible volume on the new Dot seems louder than the 4th gen. My daughter doesn't want it beside her bed for the purpose of listening to music while falling asleep. She finds it irritating. I tried asking Amazon support to see if this is something they might be addressed in an update and they were unhelpful. I actually replaced a echo 4th gen in my kitchen with it because I just don't need the bass of the 4th gen echo in the kitchen and that allowed me to have two echo 4th gens for stereo sound from my bedroom TV. I fully agree with your overall assessment Craig. It's worth if you need/use the extra features. If not wait a few weeks and get the 4th gen for $25. Thank you Mark🙏. That’s cool you have a fascination with clocks. The display can be turned off, but do not disturb mode does not have any affect on the display. The echo dot 4 has the facility to detect a person in the room. So you don't need a 5 for that. The 4 does not have a temperature sensor, but the 5 has. The temperature sensor doesn't work very well as takes a long time for the temperature inside the unit to rise or fall. I didn't know the 5 doubled up as a WiFi extender. This is useful if you have a model train room with a WiFi controlled layout. Did you know you can make an echo bark like a dog when a burglar comes around your house? How to do this is on the web. I just got the echo 5 (Still not sure if im going to use it as an extender) since i bought the 2 pack of the eero router and they support ethernet backhaul so either way i can get full speed throughout the house . 🤔 Upgrading from the 3rd gen hope its worth it just need something louder ...
@CraigsTechTalk Жыл бұрын
I would be hesitant to add the eero in as an extender. Especially if you are talking about having a backhaul. You don’t need the Echo dot slowing you down. As for sound, it is a fuller, better sound than the 3rd gen. The speaker faces you instead of down.

Will the Echo Dot 4 or 5, specifically the clock model tell you the temperature of the room it's placed in?
@CraigsTechTalk2 жыл бұрын
I was not having luck getting it to tell me the temperature from the 5th gen. 4th gen doesn’t have a temp sensor

@@CraigsTechTalk Thank you for checking. I actually just got the 5th gen Echo Dot with clock, since it was bundled with a 2-pack of Philips Hue Smart Bulbs for $39.99 and after playing with it, getting it all setup and assigned to my bedroom, I'm able to get it to tell me the temperature by simply saying the trigger word and asking "what is the bedroom temperature". Anyway, thanks again.

I still have a generation two, and I currently don't have a reason to upgrade. Anyone care to tell me what these newer generations offer, because mine seems to still be functioning perfectly fine.. I watch videos like these, and I sort of get it, it's better, but it doesn't seem groundbreaking, like I can tell a lot of effort went into it, but does it really make the experience that much better?

Why is my echo 5 has no motion detection?

i wonder if they will ever do the echo spot again having the clock on the front of echo dot and roundness reminded me of the spot

That is a good question. They should do a 10 year anniversary one.

i'm not really sure why they needed to put a clock on the new devices. I just ask what time is it? Gets the job done.
@oneilbuchanan83772 жыл бұрын
Because having a display is good for showing the time constantly or for tracking time or showing the temperature

Thank you Nick. I appreciate that. These dots are great. Love the dot with clock. It would be nice if they made a black or deep sea blue of it. Have a great weekend Nick.

@@CraigsTechTalk when you have a minute I have a quick question: I have 3 meross bulbs outside in 3 locations. I have an automation that turns them on at sunset and turns them off at sunrise the next morning. They come on and turn off no problem but if I’m not home they turn off at 8pm. If I’m home they stay on. Is there anything I should be checking on? Thanks
@CraigsTechTalk2 жыл бұрын
Do you have them written as an Alexa Routines or in HomeKit Automations?
@nickpanzeca76402 жыл бұрын
@@CraigsTechTalk I’ve tried both. Same thing happens. I’ve even reset the bulbs
@CraigsTechTalk2 жыл бұрын
If it is happening in both HomeKit and Alexa, it makes me think there is some Meross app location based thing happening. The app is the only thing I can picture in my head that could step on both Alexa routines and HomeKit. With HomeKit I was thinking it could be one of the location or people based options for automations. This is probably way off, but any chance those devices are being controlled by Bluetooth and when you are not there they can’t run? I am picturing how switchbot stuff is all controlled over Bluetooth by default unless the devices are paired to a hub. I am throwing ideas out.

I like having the screen for the clock and visual responses. I am curious how this new echo show 5 sounds. The dot 5 is better than the 2nd gen 5.
