My favorite brushes are made by Nour in Vietnam. They used to be sold in Canada under Home Hardware premium line. I have also seen tham at Home Depot sold as Nour. I cut in my entire interior without loosing a single bristle and the brush still functions like new.

I've never seen or tried those brushes. I'll keep my eyes peeled for them!

2-1/2" angled Purdy is my favorite, but I'll have to try these next time I need a new one... which is rare since a good brush will last. I also have a 1" angled for trim work.

The Cortez is awesome. I have a three inch but I’ll need to try the two and a half inch. I’m a DIYer and I just happened to buy the Cortez about 4 years ago at my local Benjamin Moore retailer when I was picking up some Regal Select. I still use the same brush. I bought Corona’s Delta brush recently and didn’t like it at all. I went back to the Cortez after cutting in one wall with the Delta.
@SuperVassarBrothers2 ай бұрын
I’ve never tried the delta. Over the last year I tried a whole lot of different brushes in different widths. For the majority of the work I do I still prefer a 2 1/2 inch Cortez 🤙

The Cortez has been my go to for a while now. I just picked up a 3" Excalibur and I can't wait to try it.

Yes, excalibur has Chinex Bristles.

Ive used both the Monterey and Cortez. I prefer Monterey as it holds more paint. But it doesn't come in a 4", so I want to try the Opal but they're not easy to find.

The Cortez is the best all round brush. We use it for walls and ceiling and all of our exterior work. The next video is going to be about a brush that’s the best specifically for trim and doors. (Corona Vegas)

What are your thoughts regarding the 3" cortez sash? Thank you
@SuperVassarBrothers10 ай бұрын
They’re great if you like that size. I find them to be a bit large for what I need to do and if you’re not use to using a brush that big then it can fatigue your hands. It holds more paint than a 2 1/2 inch so it’s noticeably heavier when you work with it. For me (and it’s totally a personal preference) a 2 1/2 inch Cortez is my sweet spot. I’m quite fast with it and I’m use to it in terms of holding one all day without my hands fatiguing

Curious to hear the difference between this and the Vegas. I just bought a 2" and a 2.5" Vegas based off your recommendations for trim
@SuperVassarBrothers Жыл бұрын
The Vegas video is coming out this week. The Cortez is the best all around brush. We use them for ceilings, walls and exterior work. The Vegas is more of a specialty brush that is excellent for trim work and doors. Especially when using hybrids like Emerald Urethane and Advance.
@gianthills Жыл бұрын
Vegas is super super soft. Way too soft to cut a wall.
@SuperVassarBrothers Жыл бұрын
Agreed. I use a cortez for the walls and ceilings.

I find the stock to be far too thin-the brush needs to fan out more IMO.
@SuperVassarBrothers5 ай бұрын
To each his own I suppose. You could always try the Monterey which is the squared off variety and it has a higher bristle count.

can't see this lasting in solvent paints long
@SuperVassarBrothers7 ай бұрын
I use mostly acrylics and hybrids so that’s not a concern for me or for the majority of interior painters.

Corona has gone way down in quality bro. The purdy blue bristle is the best brush in the world period. Corona way too soft, not a fast brush at all.
@SuperVassarBrothers10 күн бұрын
Hmmm, I’ve got the same opinion but reverse. I felt like Purdy’s went down in quality after they got bought out by Sherwin Williams. I’ve been buying corona Cortez’s by the case for over a decade now and haven’t detected any decline in quality. I’m glad you like those Purdy’s and you found something that works for you 🫡

Alright, 95% of painting is done with large and small, non beveled rollers...brushes are used only for 5% of work, pros know this...enough with the opinions on brushes, wooster/ purdy, thats it

Mmmkay…you are correct that 95% of product is applied with a roller in a lot of cases. However, I’d say around 70ish% of the time it takes to apply a coat of paint in a typical room is spent cutting in with a brush and that’s a far more technical skill than rolling. The quality of the brush matters a lot in the work that I do, but that might not be the case for everyone 🤷♂️

I see you’re not a big fan of Purdy.
@DominicanPower718Ай бұрын
I actually bought the straight sash equivalent of the Cortez and Vegas just to compare the quality compared to Purdy

They use to be better before Sherwin Williams bought them out several years ago. They’re not the worse brushes, but they don’t have anything that I like more than the Corona Cortez.
