Why be Orthodox? Two related answers, a practical personal answer and a pragmatic historical answer. First the personal, you don’t have to go to any Church to have a personal relationship with Christ, but if you wish to strengthen that relationship to its greatest possible degree through Worship and more importantly receiving the Sacraments the best place with the greatest chance to please Christ most, all things being equal is the Orthodox Church. Second the Historical, the Orthodox Church is the Only Church that has remained vigilant, loyal and continues to practice and honor the fundamental organizational principle established by James and the Apostles in the first century, Enduring Consensus. What Fr. Panayiotis Papageorgiou most eloquently referred to as the enduring voices of the many, which I’m convinced as defined by Scripture as being pleasing to the Holy Spirit is the fingerprint of the Holy Spirits continued inspiration on the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. For me these two factors have given me absolute confidence that only in Orthodoxy is Theosis, true Orthodox Theosis that I define as returning to that relationship with God enjoyed by Adam and Eve before the “fall”is possible. If we wish to Honor Christs Sacrifice of trampling down death by death is not Right and True Worship, our own small reasonable and bloodless Worship the least we can do.

Let my prayer arise in Thy sight as incense; and let the lifting up of my hands be an evening sacrifice. O taste and see how good the Lord is. Alleluia. Alleluia. Alleluia

We heard their reason. What's yours? If you are not Orthodox we invite you to experience the Divine Liturgy. Feel free to email Fr.Jonathan at "thetransfiguredlife@gmail.com" if you have any questions and are looking to connect to a local parish! ☦

Some small aspects of practice of faith were changing. For example, how to make the sign of the cross (which gesture took some decades, if not centuries, to appear in the first place.) This was a huge bloody schism creating issue in 17th century Russia.

Amen! ☦️ The theology remains the same. We do have some practices that have changed with the times for good reason.

You mean one can’t just believe that Jesus died for his sins, say the ‘Sinner’s prayer’ and then just go about his business? 😉

For me. 1. It's Truth, pure and unsullied by Traditions of Man. 2. It allows me to Worship God properly. 3. It doesn't depend on man for unity.

What happens when you desire to become Orthodox but have no ability to physically get to a church. I pray Jesus prayer 500 a day fast pray ask and hope. Read the Philokalia. No changes come. Is indication to stay as Catholic???

Three reasons? I thought there is only one, and that's salvation of one's soul. Which is, of course, is what the three good fathers are saying using other words. My trouble is, every pitiful heresy like JW makes a similar claim; and certainly does Roman Catholicism, or, say, Coptic church - these two having Apostolic succession. Obviously, rational arguments only go so far in rejecting those false claims. In some of those other faiths, one can reportedly have a deep, if false, spiritual experience. I am a cradle atheist, looked in a few wrong places before Orthodoxy found me, 28 years ago. Being Russian, I have an unfair advantage of Orthodoxy being dissolved in my language in culture, and generations of Orthodox ancestors praying for me, but the native Orthodoxy would be the last place I would check at the time, if it was up to my perverse mind. I now believe that the Orthodox Church is the One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic, which the Lord founded for the purpose of our salvation; but I am still not living the fullness of Christian life. I have an idea of what Orthodox Church has that other so called churches are lacking: on one hand, it's humility as the way of acquiring the Holy Spirit; on the other, love for one's enemies. How can I experience this fullness of Orthodoxy firsthand? Answer to this question would be the undeniable reason for being an Orthodox Christian.

Not to trash the argument but this really came across as a jehovahs witness esk sales pitch. But i get it, you picking out a portion of a larger discussion. But what would convince me is an argument from evidence not that your quality of life may be better or from your personal experience you liked it more
