That is a beautiful car. I love the maroon/black interior combination. I have a 95 Aurora as well, black with mushroom leather, about 110K miles, one prior owner. It’s my “daily” driver, although I work from home and only drive it about once a week to run errands and I only put about 3,000 miles a year on it. I have many of the same issues you have with your car. Fortunately, there is a good mechanic in my area who has experience working with Auroras and is familiar with those issues. Will you be doing a YT on your paint correction experience? I could use that as well! Thanks so much for your channel.

Ah you are lucky to have a good mechanic. I’m literally tired of looking for a mechanic in my area that wont rob me lol. I do want to share my paint correction journey on KZbin, I haven’t had the time to get it done yet unfortunately

Yes, we had a 1995 Aurora purchased in 1996. I always had the sense that the designers had moved too fast and were about a year ahead of the engineers when the Aurora was put into the marketplace. The car had a couple of years left on the 4 year warranty and thank goodness, I purchased an additional 2 years for $600 from the Olds dealer. We kept the car until 2011 and my wife drove it about 1000 miles per year. But during the 15 years we owned it, it went back to the shop under the 6 year warranty about 25 times. The things I can remember are the power windows and seats breaking a few times, the steering rack being replaced due to a "clunk" in it, the rubber rain gutters on the roof buckling , the window trim leaking, the power radio antenna breaking 3 times and the car overheating which they were never able to fix. The self leveling rear suspension pump broke shortly after the warranty ran out and I never did get that fixed because the only weight i the car was my wife. What stuck me odd with the original 1995 design was the distortion in the rear window, the lack of a recirculating mode on the heating/air conditioning system and the tendency of the car to want to keep going straight at freeway speeds as the car came to a curve. It had some kind of power steering system that decreased the assistance as speed increased. But what a beautiful car. If I was to buy a used one, it would be a 1999 after some of the bugs had been corrected. After 1999, Olds had a car called th Aurora, but it was a downsized vehicle nothing like the 1995 through. 1999..

the oldsmobile actually fixed the northstar. also you dont HAVE to use premium. literally never used premium in any that say to.
@321verykind2 ай бұрын
Haha fair enough. I found that premium gives me better gas mileage and runs smoother
@kneegrow012 ай бұрын
@@321verykind ah, in that case id definitely run premium.

The Aurora can usually be purchased for a low amount on the used car market. Any big repair is an engine out job, and the cost would exceed the value of the car. Enjoy your car and realize than a big repair will mechanically total the car. Also, anything other than a minor collision will total the car. Parts are hard to find. I have an Aurora and enjoy it. I run 90 Octane ethanol free gas in mine with octane booster. It runs great. It is a Sunday car. Collector's car insurance is very affordable - better than regular auto insurance. I would love to have the Buick Riveria too - the seats and more comfortable and it has a bullet proof engine and is Supercharged.

Very true and well said. I do plan on getting collectors plates for this very soon. The reviera is on the bucket list but i got no space at home haha, otherwise I’d love to own one of those for sure

Make sure to maintain the coolant - this engine will not take any overheating as the head gaskets will loosen (head bolts come loose).

honestly as someone who tried apprenticing as a mechanic, there is soooo much headload of knowledge that you need to know in the field with all the modern crap. I couldn’t be consistent in even oil changes and make decent time with the reset lights, indicators, even stupid placements of filters, cartridge filters, the list goes on. I am plenty capable of doing most other mechanical work to a degree but consistency was not there for me on most models of vehicles. Its just too much. so yeah, to learn older models as a mechanic, especially in the states since they don’t go to college to learn about how stuff was to how it became to now. I get it, its too much.
@321verykind2 ай бұрын
Yup, theres a lot to learn in mechanics and nowadays it’s all computer based so it’s even more steps. Hope to find some good mechanics here

There begins to be a very fine line between keeping up wiith a car's maintenance and deciding to "chance it." I paid $10k for my 2005 Lexus LS430 in March of last year. It had 163,000 miles on it ad I have added another 28k to it since. Even though the first owner kept up with the maintenance and had it all done at the dealer where they bought it, I have paid close to that in the last 1 1/4 year, from oil changes to replacing the catalytic converter to replacing the timing belt and water pump at the 190k mile mark...another $1500 in "beautifying and modernizing" it and my insurance company will in a very short time pay $2600 for damage sustained when my car was hit from behind and pushed into the small pickup truck in front of me. Fortunately there is a garage a block away from me, that friends recommended, who had the integrity to tell me when a couple items my dealer brought to my attention did not need to be replaced. Premum gas is easily $80-$100 USD every 10 days, but at the end of the day when I park it, I can't help but look back and admire it. I'm sure you feel the same about your Aurora.
@321verykind2 ай бұрын
Yes, totally agreee here. It is worth it at the end when you park it and look back at it to admire the vehicle. Good luck with your LS :)

I spend less than 45 dollars a week on 93 octane gas here in Texas, and I daily drive my Aurora.
