Personally, my biggest mistake making music was focusing on getting on a playlist. I started to compare my sound with others thinking I needed to be as heard as other producers. That mindset destroyed my creative process, and I went months without making a single beat because of it. Now, I just make music for fun and my goal is simple, if I can make 1 person smile and nod their head to the beat, I'm good. I just want to share my music with the world and hopefully make someone's day better.
@LDreTheGiant

I feel this. It’s all about what your goals are tho you can still find a balance between having fun and every now and then making beats to be playlisted if your goal is to make music a career

I always overthink as a musician. But I am fortunate enough to be in many editorials within my lofi genre. Even with my accomplishments, I still have doubts but I think what helps is seeing other listeners leave feedback saying they love my work. At the end of the day, I know I want to do music full time in the next few years but I also make sure I have plenty of fun with it, and give it my all. Like you said, don't put pressure on yourself and just do what you like to do!! Much love

bro 3 really hit home. i spent like two and a half years trying to learn deep theory and composition to make samples so i didnt have to dig all the time and made very few things i enjoyed, got burnt out on beats and tried some other genres and got more burned out.i went back to my sampling roots bolstered by what i learned from composition and im making stuff i really like.

ARRANGEMENT IS KEY! esp w instrumental music. instrumental artists have even more of an obligation to make our music more of an experience when we don't have an artist guiding the beat that fans are listening to! it is an art! thank you for the video!

Overthinking was my biggest issue and still something I deal with BUT I learned to use reference tracks. Just make the beats. I've made beats I simply hated and had artists love them and use them. Then I'll make beats I think that Drake would sign me over and get no love. You never know. Just cook up

Personally, for me, I do not use samples in my music because I want to be original and create stuff from my own mind, but I do use samples as a way to dissect what makes a sample sound like a sample. From there I incorporate elements that make the sample a sample into my own music and so far I have been able to grow without the use of any loops which I am honestly really happy about.

I criticize myself too harshly for using samples and loops in my beats because the artist side of my brain keeps saying it’s not authentic enough 😩 but damn if I can’t seem to make a decent drum loop to save my life 😂 I can do melody and soundscaping just fine but my original drums are always fucked 😭 I recently went thru and replaced my original drums with similar loops I found and it saved like 7 of my beats from eternal trash can 😂

That Was Beautiful To Listen To... But I Would Like To Add, When We First Time MPC User's Get Our Devices, It Is Imperative To Learn About The Basic Fundamental Options Of What Akai's Software is Capable of... Because There Are Too Many Examples Of Loops That Are Broken Down To There Most Basic Element, Then Layered While EQ-ing Each Track Or And 808 Note On the Down Beat To Taste And Using Automations For Character (Malo Beats Does A Great Job Of This) Then Once You Set Your Bar Length and Add In Your Track Mutes To A Rhythm Of Your Liking, Your Can Never Go Wrong... EVERTHING ELSE IS UP TO TASTE and Your Marketing/Distribution Abilities.

Everytime that I use samples I just think that I'm inferior to other producers... and makes me feel bad about my music, so whenever I think I publish some songs, I'm afraid that people will think that I'm worse just for using samples. :(

Making beats on camera (or timing yourself) really helps with overthinking, changed a lot for me. You don’t want to film for 4 hours so you settle for something that just sounds good and move on in the process. It might suck but you can just shelve that beat 😂

@@LDreTheGiant Nah you create fire bro, big time fan of your production and I always cop your kits so don’t think I’m coming from a harmful way. I do believe using “your beats are trash” in the title does more damage to the psyche of up and coming producers than it helps us in any way. Your #3 point was to stop overthinking, but when we see this type of aggressive title… it’s a subconscious attack at our self-esteem. I don’t say this specific to you L. Dre. A lot of producers are using this title and it’s being used in a way to differentiate between them (the “master/guru”) and their audience to make the creatives in the audience feel like they are inferior. It’s a nasty narrative, in my humble opinion. I hope you don’t interpret that in the wrong way brother. Let’s build, not destroy.
