Dude. L.Dre. I came for the lofi stuff during the panny. I came back to watch you learn an instrument, which i think is super important & cool. I’m a life long guitarist. Like someone else said, look up the Nashville numbering system. Also, maybe don’t think of “scales” so much. Look at the “Modes”. Things might unlock for you there. They all connect!

Whats up man. I recommend taking at lest 3months of music theory with an actual teacher. I started using melodics App and is working for me, but I also think that it works for me because I already had taken music theory in person. Melodics teaches you how to play but the theory part u need one on one. This had worked for me so hope it helps.

You're doing great bro! keep it up! I've been playing since I was about 6 and have sometimes been a piano teacher, and i've always been of the opinion that the piano is WAY LESS scarier that adult beginners feel like it is. Just keep doing what you're doing: learn a scale and some chords, invert 'em, shake 'em up, play 'em, grab another scale, wash rinse repeat. Before long you're gonna look back and wonder what was so intimidating about it. Also, Taetro has some great intro to music theory videos that are super approachable, have a look at those and take 'em at your own pace. Keep at it, you're making great progress!

Dope video! I know you mentioned you don't wanna learn the number system, but I encourage to give it a chance, it's truly a game changer! This is coming from a drummer who learned how to play keys fairly quickly and in large part to the number system, scales, and learning chord qualities. But I also know what works for one person may not work for the next. Either way, it's dope to follow the journey you're on and wishing you much love and success all 2025!🙏

the proper fingering will help with the noodling you want to add on top of the chords. its only weird now cause its new. proper fingering is faster AND helps reduce wrist and finger strain

I've been making progress on right hand left hand independence. You should check out different rhythms for the bass in the left and chords in the right. Use the bass note as a little buffer to let your right hand fingers get to the next chord. the song "Let it Be" by the Beatles has this. Don't give up! Keep persevering!

Great Video. You really made progress. KEEP GOING, especially keep practicing to drum beats. People tend to forget half of playing an instrument is rhythm and timing. STAY UP!!!

Another helpful tip (sorry, music production/theory nerd here)-- around 11:00 you say you don't like the Dominant 7 chord... I will say, from listening to lofi for years (including yours, of course)... the Dominant chords do sound a bit tense in a lot of progressions. There's quite a few lofi tracks that don't even use true Dom7 chords. They don't need them, unless you're going for that traditional jazz or "standards" sound.

6:40 Chord numbering "The Nashville System" IS what you want, believe me. This helps you play the same progression in every single key, thus, sounding like a more impressive keyboardist. :)

You mention around 3:50 "G major 7" - that's actually G7 ("G Dominant 7"). Major 7s have notes in the chords that are fully, 100% notes in the scale. Dominant 7s are named because they're not "major".... the 7th note is out of the major scale, so it needs a different chord name. Also, common jazz chord progression--- ii, V, i. What that means-- "the minor 2" (Dm, in the key of C), "the dominant 5" (G) then "the 1" (C). When you make the chords 7ths... you get this-- iim7, V7, Imaj7 (Dm7, G7, Cmaj7). The theory can be ridiculous, but... hope this helps you a little!

Highly recommend Creative Piano Academy's channel and course. He has relatively easy and impressive things to do. Out of all the piano channels, I don't think there's a more fun and quick-to-implement than his. Just a heads-up, L. Dre. Experiment with it and let me know what you think. Also, good job with the chords!

Bro, you are right where I am. I don't want to be a virtuoso pianist and read sheet music. I want to know my way around the keyboard so I can more easily know where to go when composing. I think there's definitely going to be some overlap with traditional lesson methodology, but I want to focus on the things I need to help me in my DAW.

I've been doing a ton of overthinking lately. I stopped pursuing music during the pandemic and it wasn't until last year that I even considered taking it serious again. I have so many years of experience and I feel like it's my time to figure it out but its tough battling the doubts and unknown.

I would suggest hiring a coach that has a blueprint into how to effectively break into the film music industry. I saw one on Instagram and he makes a lot of passive income from film placements, but I cannot recall the name. A coach will make you aware what to fix and how in order to progress.
