I. Needed. This. I was literally walking in the woods today and thinking about my art problems, about working on it constantly and feeling like I can't improve at all these days, thinking that maybe I'm at my limit or something. And then this video shows up. Thank you!

I appreciate you addressing how personal wellness can affect drawing. I have been struggling with a mystery illness which limits and sometimes prevents my drawing. Sometimes it makes me feel like I will never be a real artist because I'm too sick to practice right now. So hearing from you that you also sometimes don't have the bandwidth to draw is really comforting!!
@inero6666664 жыл бұрын
That hits home hard. Some days it feels like I just can't create anything, no matter how hard I try. It really cripples my motivation of being a successful professional artist, since it requires you to be able to draw on demand and pretty consistently, which I for some reason can't afford.

One of the only times I tried to stream me drawing, I felt myself sort of rushing through everything and feeling extra weird about it all (even though there was only like 4 people max watching, one probably being my mom). Something about the obligation to be doing something at all times really got to me.
@leynanguyen404 жыл бұрын
I can relate! I felt so nervous and I couldn’t draw as well because I couldn’t get in the zone :( I thought it would be fun to draw while talking with people but I was rushing and felt uncomfortable. I think it takes time tbh.

I totally choke on drawing and talking. My quality plummets. Stopping at a set time is amazing, and a good, healthy practice. It took two nervous breakdowns in six months to learn this. I realized I’d been working or hustling for work for forty years without a vacation, and I took one, and then starting taking weekends off. Take care of yourself now, future you will thank you.

Thabk you for this sir. I have beeb improving so much this past 2 months and whenever i stop, I feel like i'm slacking off instead of having time to relax. I have sometimes 10 or more hour art sessions and it's really tiring. I remember I needed to finish my work within two hours cause i needed to start another one and I did it without prolonging so much. I guess you're right, it's more of a spending your time with quality instead of spending all your time Real thanks, I appreciate it 😊

i was evacuated from a wild fire for two months total and basically there were two waves of it (i evacuated, came home for 3 days, left again) and the second time i was evacuated, i drew a lot during that period of time and, even though i enjoyed the art at the time, now that i think about it, my style changed and deteriorated during that time period because of the constant stress. just thinking of it now because of this video talking about how anxiety can stop your art work from improving.

Honestly this is so me I always feel guilty when i'm not drawing to the point that I forgot why I started drawing in the first place : to draw my favourite video game characters, but after starting to learn drawing I always thought that all my time should be spent on drawing and learning because it's fun and truly brings joy to me like I never experienced it before But that was at a cost of me slowly not playing video games I enjoyed which in turn led to me not actually draw any character I like because I will always draw tedious practices to improve my skills cuz "practice makes progress" even if I was playing I always have that feeling of guilt that I should spend my time playing video games on drawing instead It's a really complicated problem which made me forget why I love video games and it's characters cuz I was always stressed i'm wasting my time After a while I decided that I shouldn't draw everyday and I deserve some days to just have fun and live a normal life any other human that's when I came with the "saturday rest day" in which in it I will do anything I want except drawing and anything related to it I will force my self to just relax and live my life not even looking at art in the internet And so far it's going great but I still have these feelings of guilt comes very often I hope that sometime in the future I arrive at that time when Drawing isn't a burden anymore and I can control my self when to stop and have fun c;

When I first started doing photography, I carried my camera with me everywhere, and took photos of everything. When I first started trying to learn to draw, I carried my sketchbook everywhere. Never used it much though. Nowadays, I don't carry my sketchbook anywhere, but then again, I don't go much of anywhere.

I came back to this video since recently I’ve been forced to take a break due to repetitive strain injury on my wrist. I’ve had a lot more free time these days (pandemic + gap year means I basically have very few pressing obligations) and I’ve used most of it to push myself with drawing, even though I knew my wrist has been a problem for a while now. I think I’m finally at a breaking point and the advice in this video is really reassuring.

3 Reasons You Aren’t Drawing Your Best _ADD, Depression and Perfectionism intensify_ There was a time where I'd draw non-stop, even if what I did wasn't all that good. But lately I rarely draw and when I do, I'm lazier and never finish a piece. I used to sketch, ink and colour all my pieces but now I seem to finish the sketch and lose all interest in doing anything more. Or I'll add a rough block of colour under the sketch for 'proof of concept' so to speak and leave it at that. I feel like drawing is the only real thing I'm good at career wise but when I have no interest in drawing/being creative, I'm left doubting if art is meant to be a big part of my life.

If you want to provide your own specific reasons, as valid as they are, feel free to create something on your own, I just don't want any to misinterpret this comment as a sort of summary of the video. I deal with the same, but they may not be quite as universal :D
@ArtzyZero4 жыл бұрын
@@CharacterDesignForge Oh, it was more intended as a self deprecating joke that came to mind from watching the video. They are very real mental issues that are a roadblock for me creatively but it wasn't meant to be active commentary on the video. :) The latter was a personal rant that did come a bit out of nowhere as I'm the kind of person who tends to ramble, even in writing. But I'm more than happy to edit the original comment if you're worried someone will misinterpret the content of your video.

A lot of the time for me it seems that, for as vague as it is, the vibes are just off. Like I'll sit down to draw, and with no distractions, nothing in the way, it'll still take ages to get anything just because I can't connect to the canvas. Usually in these cases, I'll just walk away. Sometimes though, I have to try because my free time is all taken for the nest couple weeks. When that happens, I tend to have to come back and fix things anyway, haha. But when it's all going well, boy do I just LOVE the final result!

Honostly really loving this new style of intros youre doing. They are really fun, and feel like a larger piece of your true personality. (not that you arent already showing it). I have been drawing for almost as long as I have lived and graduated from art school in game art. I feel like maybe art school burned me out spent many years after grad not doing art. Sketching here and there but my problem is now at 36 somehow I have anxiety about my drawings. And its getting worst. Like I hate everything my pencil creates and it makes me feel crappy. But it also makes me feel crappy when I don't do art. Idk what to do.

When I'm not doing anything while drawing I get bored easily and can't focus: I want to do smth else instead, and keep thinking of what I could listen to while drawing.
@zdaz90453 жыл бұрын
And also I find art streams really helpful for me bc: 1) I'm constantly busy talking and don't want to go and find smth interesting 2) people in chat help me find and fix mistakes (for some ppl it can be hard to ignore advices that you think don't fit in particular situations) 3) I Come up with new ideas while talking with people, or even just talking some things out loud to myself
