@@faidou9954 well, I've lost track of the number of hours I spent pouring over the Peterson guides or watching real life birds. I do really like them. But drawing them has always been hard for me. Awesome video, truly. It came at just the right time for me. I have a hard time taking care of myself - mainly because my "struggle" is the distinct feeling of not being good enough (at art) and fearing for my future because of it, since art is my dream. I push myself to create art every day, striving for nothing short of my best, 100% effort and 100% quality work... which leads to severe burn out. I realized I had it but kept pushing myself through it anyway. After a while, this lead me to being unable to do anything at all - and I only hated myself more for it. But this - this was so... healing. I can't explain, but it's really helpful to hear from someone on the outside that I'm allowed to take a break - that I'm allowed to be tired, hungry, or overworked. That I'm allowed to be human. Thank you so much for this video, and to everyone else out there like me, please, please, PLEASE, go take a break. It's okay. You're allowed.

It makes sense - in order to make good art, you must live a good life. It sounds so simple, but yet those two things go hand in hand. The art we make is a piece of ourselves. Therefore, if we suffer as humans, our art is going to suffer as a direct result. Take care of yourself before you take care of your art - if you can't take care of yourself, how are you going to take care of your art? Thanks for the reminder, I love your videos! :)

Back when I first started college, 25 years ago (!!!), I quickly learned that it was nearly impossible for me to make any real progress on an art project if I was stressed out over real world problems. Like where was I going to find the money for my next tuition payment? Or why was my car suddenly making weird noises? What I found really helpful was simply writing down everything that worried me in a list. It didn't actually solve the problems, but it was a great stress reliever and I guess it signaled to my brain that the concerns had been documented and weren't going to be forgotten; so my mind was free to start focusing on other, more creative, activities.

It's also really helpfull is you have a scheduled time each day for creating may it be drawing, writting, etc! Your brain gets used to it and expects to be creating at a certain time. And even if nothing happens on some days, it's okay as long as you spent the time on your creative corner wherever it may be or hey, make a line. Sometimes that's all it takes to start. :) Thanks so much for these tips tho! I've been stretching, running and doing some arm exercises for the last two months now on a daily, smaller scale and I think it really helps with a more positive mood towards creating especially with the looming deadline to finish my thesis film is practically banging on my door. :') Keep being incredible and can't wait for the next video!

People (my younger self included) don't seems to realise before signs of pain shows up how much stress drawing does to the body. Not only the hand and wrist, but the shoulder, the back because of bad postures, even the knees if you're the type who sit cross-legged all day just because you can. You take all kind of habits, and without a body healthy enough to whistand the pressure you put on it day after day, problems start to appear. And that's without talking about how "stress + lack of sleep + bad eating habits" are the perfect recipe to make one gain weight...Wich result in having more difficulties to exercice; until some lines are crossed, health is in serious danger and huge efforts are needed to get back to an healthy state while just applying healthy habits would have prevented most of this. Like a wise man once said: "Drawing is like playing tennis. Why do people think tennis players should train regularly but artists can perform endlessly without taking care of their body?"

In relation to number 13, yes, draw in your own style. When someone commissions work from you they want to see that work in your style, but they also want you to give your 100%. I have done art trades before where I'm drawing my best work for the recipient and while the recipient is making their drawing for me in their own art style, they give it back to me and it's poorly drawn, lack detail, and coloring compared to everything else they've done with little to know work effort put into it at all. Your clients aren't fools guys, and as an artists you're not helping yourselves by working with minimal effort.

I’ve been planning to watch loads of your older videos sometime (as more energies return), so please know your videos are good content, you’ve gotta be one of, if not the, best for character design and your delivery is a calm, warm and friendly style which I’ve recently realised means I can watch even when too tired for the louder/hyped types.

Question about #14. I know I have a very shallow understanding of many aspects of art from anatomy to values, etc. In order to improve at those things I need to keep drawing and implementing them, and do studies on the matters. My problem is that because so many countless aspects of my work are underdeveloped, how am I supposed to draw anything outside studies? I get learning through failure but how do I keep working on a piece with the persistent knowledge that I'm doing so many things wrong?

Number 13. Oh number 13. I draw my friend's characters fairly often. I enjoy giving them art, but there's also birthday art and whatnot. But their characters are always so detailed and specific, that I always feel like I'm doing it wrong if I'm not copying the character exactly. For instance, one of my friends, most of their characters have really specifically originally designed armor, with specific decorations, straps, clothing, capes, patterns, etc. So when I go to draw it, I'll spend so much time trying to get that stuff exact, that it kinda loses some of my more cartoony style, but it also burns me out on drawing because I have to sit there and go back and forth between the reference image, and my drawing, trying to get it exact. (Actually, a couple of my friends have complicated characters now that I'm thinking about it.) I'm also not used to drawing complicated stuff. All of MY characters tend to be simple. My most complicated character is still just wearing shorts, a cut off shirt, and has a few metal bits on her arm, and a set of goggles. Nothing hard to remember. On the other side of that though, I had another couple friends years before I really even started talking to this one. Their characters were way simpler. On top of that, because they were simpler, I could kinda memorize the character better, and I could draw them off the top of my head without a reference. Meaning, I could focus more on just drawing, rather than trying to match a reference image. Because of that, I'd mess around with them. Drawing them in different styles, poses, etc. - Also, that topic of warming up. I have bad habit of not warming up at all. I'll grab my sketchbook with the sole intent of drawing something specific, either because I had an idea, or because I plan to draw for someone. I'll almost always just jump right into the drawing, then get annoyed because it's not turning out how I want. - My main problem, is that I honestly feel like I'm lacking much of an imagination. Give me a photo of a face, and some time, and I can copy it with no problem. Tell me exactly what to draw, and I probably can manage it, assuming you told me literally everything (pose included). But if I need to think of things myself, I struggle. You know how people have 'off days', where they might not be able to work as well, or they're distracted, or they're just having problems drawing that day? Well, I have 'on days', where every so often, rarely, I'll actually have an idea. 99% of the time though, I sit there looking at my blank page and have no idea what to draw. And it's not just in general, it'll go every step of the way too. If I DO somehow get a vague idea, I'll struggle with whatever comes next. Like, I'll decide to draw someone doing a thing. Then I get stuck at what the 'camera angle' should be, I'll get stuck at what the background should be (or if there should even be one), I'll get stuck at what their hair should be, or what they're wearing, or if there's a weapon, what the weapon should be. Like, my brain is fighting me every single step of the way. Usually I don't even get an idea in the first place, but if I do, it just gets worse from there. My sketchbooks are filled with mostly heads. You flip through any one of my sketchbooks and almost every page has 2-3 heads at least. Because that's all I can think of? Heads are my autopilot thing to draw. I can't think of something to draw? I get frustrated from lack of ideas, or because I drawing is turning out crap? I draw a head. Which of course, also means that my ability to draw heads outdoes my ability to draw anything else.

Huh, funny, I am pursing another form of art, more complex than my previous endeavors, and I have to learn this new form from the beginning. I get discouraged sometimes, thinking I won't succeed. Then I remind myself, to consider my past accomplishments and how I felt when I was learning illustration, same emotions. I'm struggling, but, if I continue all will be well. I know!

I grew up drawing on busses, as I'd get in trouble drawing in school, and i had to do homework at home, and i wanted to play videogames at night. So that 45 minute bus ride to school was basically my only real time where I was super focused and in the zone. The trick is to draw in bursts, draw lightly and do all the loose gesture stuff as the bumps wont affect those as much, and then draw details, and form during the stops. And at each stop I look up to see where I am. Now as an adult, im still drawing on the fucking bus, because i dont have a car. But using buses for about 23 years now has me so bus minded i can be baked as a potato and still not miss my spot. Unless im reading. I can't read on the bus
