Even if the government could just do away with interest, that would be SO helpful.

Thanks for all of your videos, as I started watching when I converted my FFELP loans into a direct loan consolidation in the fall of 2022. I'm not complaining too much as I'm now under $16K, after an initial $101K about 19 years ago. And having grad school loans I won't be eligible for 6 more years anyway. That text tool was very quick and informative and simply took a couple of minutes.

I'm heartbroken. Called last week to get my forgiveness date on $128K. My ICR/IBR grad school loans entered repayment May 1999, so I'm at 25 years next month... nope. Turns out the COVID forbearance does NOT count toward repayment, so they've pushed my forgiveness date into 2028. Would consolidating by tomorrow's deadline make a difference, since my loans have always been ICR/IBR? (I have a 1-on-1 with you on the books for May. Looking forward to it even though we'll be long past the 4/30/24 deadline of course.) Thank you for these wonderfully informative vids and the fab TXT tool!

@@stanleytate -- Okay, so the Q remains: Why would the rep tell me otherwise? (I know, you can't answer for her.) I'm going to trust that I'm already IN the right kind of loan situation since I've been in ICR/IBR actually since undergrad loans in the '80s (LOL) and that you'll help me figure out what to say to the fine folks to get them to go ahead and give me all the credit toward repayment that I've earned up all these years. THANKS!

Did you consolidate the loans under the Save or IBR plan. My loans were in IBR since 2015. However, I finished school in 1994. I still had to consolidate them again for the account adjustment. I consolidated them into a direct consolidation in October 2023. I was forgiven for just under $183,000 at the beginning of May '24. I just signed into Mohela, and the account has been updated to show a zero balance. The payment history or the loan details can't be seen. The loans were completely wiped away as though they never existed. I have been praying for this blessing for so long. I am so ecstatic!

@@charleswatts3810 -- Congratulations! Wow! That's exciting and inspiring! :) Thank you for sharing with me. I had a 1-on-1 with @stanleytate last month, and there's a hole in the reporting data the system has for me (they're showing my loan was on a GRACE PERIOD of more than a decade before it ever entered repayment, which is of course not the case). I *entered* the loan as an ICR (renamed to IBR a few years later) and have been paying in since May 1999. I've been advised to let my case work its way through the system these next few months and then -- if November comes around and I've not seen my loans forgiven -- we go to them with the receipts for the missing repayment data. When they update my record, my original loan should show as, in fact, past the forgiveness date. Waiting for the system to "fail" gives us something to push against, which is a better position for getting them to act on the adjustments we present at that time. Of course, I could also get my forgiveness notification before November 2024 and that'd be fine with me too. ;) Your experience inspires me. Here's hoping! :)

If my IDR loan forgiveness date is set to take place sometime early in the next presidential administration (2025), can the next administration easily take away this attribute of the program? (Asking bc in order to take advantage of the IDR Waiver, I need to consolidate, which will result in a significantly higher monthly payment). #catch22

Have no clue. That probably won't happen. But is it possible? Sure.

What are qualifying deferment and forbearance periods? I am assuming time in school is qualifying forbearance, 3 years of covid forbearance is also qualifying. But what if one lost their job due to a layoff and had to apply for deferment, then resumed payments in 6 months after finding another job, person never went into default? Can you please make a video or Q/A explaining what these qualifying deferment and forbearance periods are? Thank you so much!

Nice to know, i paid off my lians making $60,000/year. But, now I get to pay off your's, yoo. It's not debt forgiveness, its, just, passing on your responsibility to others.

PSLF are for those in public service & who have made at least 10 years of payments, oftentimes more. YOU didn't pay anything. Hardworking Americans dedicated years of their lives & this program acknowledges that.

@@pumpkin03 No, I paid off MY loans. No one, but, me. These irresponsible jerks, are telling people they "can't" pay off their student loans. "Loan forgiveness" is, just, passing my debt onto someone else. It was difficult, my education did not lead to employment, and it was my responsibility.
@pumpkin035 ай бұрын
@ronferderer9088 You sound ignorant. None of these programs are tailored to those who "can't" pay. They all have guidelines & stipulations. There's no such thing as straight up loan "forgiveness". They should abolish the term for jerks like you bc you literally think it's a handout versus a program with a set of criteria.
